'05 TL headlight issue
A few years back my passenger side headlight would work when It wanted to. I changed the ballast and it worked for a little while. Since then it will come on when it wants after turning headlights on and off a few times. Now the drivers side is doing the same. This morning I kept turning on and off and I could only get one headlight on at a time, never both. So I drove to work with my foglights on. Any ideas on where to start with this issue? Should I purchase new ballast for both headlights?

im assuming the control unit is the same as ballast?
neither headlights have turned or showed signs of fading either. They just don't come on all the time.. Once on they don't just go out on their own either.

yeah pretty textbook ballast failure. Control unit:
if it's discoloration aka turning pink, it's the bulbs, but if it's intermittently turning on, it's the ballast.

The same thing happened to me on my 06' TL. first the driver side turned purple which means that the bulb went bad and then my right side wouldn't turn on.
So i got the ballast and ignitor and new bulb for one side and when i powered it on, not only did the lights not come on, but it smelled a burning plastic smell so i had some wiring issues. it sucks because i really loved the stock HIDs on the TLs but i had to go aftermarket because finding and electrical issue within a wiring harness can be like finding a needle in a haystack.
But just thought ide post because maybe this has happened to others as well and i would love to go back to OEM
