'05 TL creaking noise coming from passenger side when stopping/accelerating

Hi All,

I did some searching on this topic but haven't been able to find a definite fix for this problem. After the car has been driven for a while it makes a creaking noise from the passenger side when stopping and starting. It is a pretty low frequency noise and happens consistently but only from a stop so when I stop it makes it then again when I accelerate. Does anyone know what could cause this? It seems like it is a suspension thing but I am not sure.

Thanks,
DJ

I have the exact same problem on my 07 Base. I only have 45,000 miles and no mods. I have taken it to the dealer several times and the sound never happens while I'm there. I even hear it and fly to Acura Service and they "hear nothing" My warranty runs out in July and I need this fixed. I notice mine when there is a lot of moisture in the air, and almost always when it rains. I would love to find the root of this problem!!!

Prob a side motor mount. Not that its failing but I bet if someone loosens the bolts and torques the motor a little forward or backward, AND retightens the bolts, the noise will go away. Not saying its anything else. Chances are the shocks, control arms, bushings, hub, bearing, and spindle are ok

Hey everyone, I know this is an old post but I'm pretty sure I figured out what the noise is. My symptom was if you put your left foot on the brake and gave it gas with your right, you would hear a creaking noise coming from the engine compartment. Sometimes you will hear a pop as well. I thought I had bad motor mounts like a lot of other people, but after replacing the front and upper transmission mounts I was getting frustrated. I looked under the car and right under the lower transmission mounts (there are 2) I could see that 3 of the 4 nuts had come off the bolts that held the mount to the car chassis. The pop I was hearing was the threads of the bolt catching as it moved up and down. If you have any weird creaks or popping noises, specifically from a stop to a start, or rapid acceleration check this first.

i have the same thing. it creaks when i accelerate or decelerate. the creak is right behind the amp, as I've taken the amp off to try to pinpoint it. but I cannot for the life of me find out exactly what the problem is. happens less frequently when its hot outside, but when its not hot out, its pretty consistent and replicable.

same thing is happening to me. and just as paperboy42190 said, I would hear the noise less often on hot days. I was thinking of a busted axle or bushing. But haven't had a chance to get it to the shop for inspection yet. ;(

I too am having the same issue. When I brake torque the car I can duplicate the issue. It kinda pissed me off and the noise was driving me nuts, lol. So today I decided to stay after at work and put the car on the lift. I have a 08 Type S by the way. I first checked the lug nut torque and was good. I then checked the caliper torque and that was good. I pulled the front brakes apart and lubed all the hardware and pads and reassembled. The noise was still there. I did narrow the noise down to the hub, rotor area. I checked the torque on the axle nut, It was torqued. I once had a car that had dry axle splins, and it made a funny noise so I decided to pull the axles out. BINGO! Found dry spins. I cleaned the splines on the alxe and the hub with brake clean. I used this special grease for axle splines called STEELCO RED CROWN part number 488-1. Reinstalled the axles and the creeking noise is gone. Which makes sense being here in Ohio with snow and alot of rain lately. Axles seals are good cant seal everything. Hope this helps you guys.

I'm too, having similar problems. The creaking noise only occurs when I'm braking to a complete stop. Whenever I let go of the steering wheel, my TL does not steer to the left or right. BUT, when the weather is below -0 degree celsius the creaking noise will appear. I notice this because whenever the weather here is above 10 degrees celsius the creaking noise will not appear.

Does anyone what's the problem?

Ugh, having the same issue too. I'm going to check the engine and transmission mounts. Then the axles... Unfortunately, Minnesota weather sucks monkey balls and I can't do anything in this -30 degree weather.

Glad some of you were able to figure out your issue. Hopefully mine is the same.

Had the same issue, 100% fixed with a new pass side motor mount and pass side upper control arm. Upper control arm had some bushing wear. 40k since replacement and have NEVER had the noise replicate again. I know how annoying it can be.

So I have noticed some creaking sounds from the driver and passenger sides but can not identify the culprit. Anyone with similar issues please advise. I have attached a video for you to listen.

Check ball joints as well as the compliance bushing on the lower control arms....kind of hard to see if the bushing is bad unless your wheel is off and you know where to look. Hope this helps you guys. I'll try and get a pic of the bushing.

I have this same creaking sound man. Mine occurs only on the passenger side . I just had some work done on my TL and the lower ball joints were on pretty much shot, so I had them replaced. The car drives smoother, but the creaking sound is still there. I am thinking it could be a side motor mount. Check this thread out for further input:

I also hear almost a slight clicking sound in your video as well. It reminds me of the same clicking sound from a shift lock solenoid, which is odd.
