I picked up a new set of taillights for my 05 TL thinking they were 05's as well but once I took the car apart the ballast were different sizes and it appeared the new headlights I bought were from an 06, I tried using my old ballasts from my 05 to put onto the new headlights and it sounded like it fried the ballast. I read the watts and volts on the 05 ballast and it looked the same as the volts and watts on the 06 ballasts, can anyone help me out? Which ballast do I need for the 06 headlights to work for my 2005 TL, and do I just need to buy new ballasts to make the switch?

 

from 06 onwards, they used a slimmer ballast.

It just won't physically seat properly.
I have heard some people making the 04/05 ballast fit into the 06+ headlights.

Still, I don't believe it should fry the ballast.
