'05 TL auto tranny question

I saw a post where someone mentioned a redesign of the 3rd gear and you can tell by your vin if your vehicle has the original or redesigned tranny. Anyone know about this? Has anyone with an automatic '05 TL had any transmission issues?

05 Transmission are fine. Unless your going to do serious mods to the engine the stock trans is fine. 04 got the redesigned transmissions. Only a few early vin 04's had the issue. I worked in the service department at an Acura dealership for 2 years and not 1 single 05 TL auto came in for trans replacement. Do the 3 quart drain and fills as often as you can and you'll be fine. Dealer will probably recommend that you go as per the Maitinence Minder, but I do the drain and fills as often as I can.

thanx dave. all the transmission talk all over the place has me paranoid. I just bought my TL and it has 103k on it and it's really, really clean. looks and feels like a new car, mostly because the previous owner (1 owner) averaged 75 highway miles a day the last couple years so the transmission really hasn't been abused like a city car. They always had it serviced at a dealership so I'm sure the 3x3 has never been done on it. I'm considering going the Amsoil ATD route.

I have an 05 tl as well. Here recently i have noticed that my 1st and 2nd gears have been real jerky and kind of hesitant to respond. Feels as if i have lost some HP. i took my car in for regular maintenance and the dealership found a faulty belt tensioner...they replaced it. I used to get around 320 miles on a tank but now the highest i have hit is 260. Even after the belt tensioner was replaced i still dont have the power i used to have. Any ideas...

Look up my thread on had a very interesting talk with my transmission builder.

The 3-4 sensors start to go bad over time resulting in harsh or delayed shifts and eventually leading to shudder and complete failure. $80 fixes the problem.

I Hate, how's the ATD holding up? Is that what you're still running? I'm debating between ATF and ATD and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.
