05 TL All Windows Won’t Move

Hey guys! 2005 Acura TL. All four windows and sunroof are stuck open and will not move at all. Any idea what might be causing this?

Mechanic doesn’t know what’s wrong, but says it’s pretty much a lost cause, offering me $200 to take the car off my hands. Noting the cracked dash and oxidized paint, he’s saying that it would cost “a fortune” to fix and I wouldn't able to get anything for it elsewhereI’m having a hard time coming to grips with this.

A little history:
I haven’t driven the car much in the last 1.5 years. Prior to that it was pretty much fine. Never any electrical issues. Bought a new car so Acura sat in a garage for 5 months before being driven 275 miles to sit for another month. Towed it 1,000 miles just for it to sit another 4 months in a garage. Drove it 100 miles to leave it with a friend who was supposed to help me sell it. 3 months later got a call from said friend that the battery wasn’t holding a charge, alarm keeps going off and all windows and sunroof are stuck open. Towed to mechanic where it currently is.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

take it to a better mechanic?

electrical issues are not fun to diagnose. this is why a lot of shops charge more for it than normal diagnostic rates. If this mechanic could provide some reasonable diagnosis and then say it's not worth the cost to fix and offer to buy it, that's one thing. but a non-diagnosis like this means it's time to find someone who knows better what they're doing.

You’re right. I took it to this guy because he’s a friend of my dad, but that doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing. I’ll try to find someone who specializes in Honda/Acura. Thanks for the reality check!

I do not have my Helm book available to look at right now, but I would check all your fuses and relays at the drivers footwell and underhood.

I agree with the others. Find another mechanic.

It could be caused by any number of things. Have you checked fuses underhood and underdash?

No need to find a mechanic that "specializes in Honda/Acura" for this. Hondas are pretty simple to work on. You just need to find a good mechanic.

I know I'm late to the party but try inserting the key into the door, and turn it towards the front of the car (to lock) and hold it to see if the windows will roll up/sunroof close. My TLS just developed an intermittent issue where I can't roll up/down the windows using any of the window switches. I could only get it to work using the key in door.

Thanks for the replies everyone!! I did end up taking it to another mechanic who was able to diagnose and fix the issue. Apparently there were fuses out and the HandsFreelink was drawing on and draining the battery so the new mechanic disconnected it. Now I'm ready to sell it ASAP!!
