So you move it over into manual and there's no gear indicator light on the dash and when you push it up or down nothing happens? Does it stil shift as if it were in "D"?

Disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and try again. Sounds crazy but I have this hypothesis that if you don't use it, you lose it. Or you reset your ECU and use it more often
My SS wouldn't down shift at all, until I starting using it a lot more and slapping it down two or three times until it would shift.. it's like the car learned I wanted to use it, which is what the ECU does in a nutshell.
Since you've had your trans replaced, who knows though? lol I could be way off here

It's probably the switch under the shifter.

It would probably be best to get a manual. It will have the proper troubleshooting guide too.
I'm saying it's probably the swtich because you say the indicator on the dash does not show a gear displayed and the trans does not respond.
What does happen when you push it over to sport shift, does the green dot on the "D" on the dash indicator go out or does it stay on?

You can look it up at delray acura, they have some nice parts diagrams and sometimes by the diagram you can get an idea of how hard it would be to take apart. I'm pretty sure you have to take the entire center console out....

Yes sir. I've owned mine since I was 17 and in highschool. My father has had an 800rwhp one almost as long as me and another that's his daily driver and 3 of my friends have them.
If you google "delray acura" the site will come up. Fill in the info it asks you and click on the picture diagram.

That's awesome on the GNX. Does he drive it? I've seen some figures that estimate only around 350 of the 547 GNXs remaining. I want one but I would be too afraid to drive it. The good thing is it's sure to never go down in value.

Hell no it's not normal.. I keep it in SS about 80% of the time when I'm on the street. Not because I'm out to race but I don't like the adaptive shift points. Take it apart and check the connections.

IHC, you mention this switch...when I come to a near stop (<5mph), I hear a click coming from the shift area. Like its "unlocking" the gear shift so I can move it into park, etc. But it does this all the time, even when just stopping at a light. Then once I start moving again, it clicks to "lock". Could it be this switch causing the problem?
It's only a minor annoyance, thus I haven't created a new thread for it.

That's the shift interlock solenoid, the one that stops you from shifting out of park unless you press the brakes.
There was a thread on this subject years ago for when it's noisy all the time and I think there was a fix for it without replacing the whole thing but it's been so long I can't remember.
I'm not sure if it's supposed to lock and unlock anytime you hit the brakes and it just gets noisy enough to hear it as it gets old.... or if it's being triggered when it's not supposed to (when the car is in motion and not in park).

Here's what I found cut and pasted from another member...
"Problem Fixed! I finally took matters into my own hands and fixed the problem - IMO this is not a normal noise. Sorry - no pics of the repair, my GF had my camera.
Anyway - I pulled out the shifter assembly after the dealer had replaced the shift lock solenoid (car was still making the noise). The Shift Lock Solenoid will activate in Park (when you press the brake). It also activates when you slow down (under 2 mph) and than again when you pull away from a dead stop (at about 2-3 mph). The solenoid is there to prevent you from shifting past Neutral (into reverse or park) when you're moving above 2-3 mph). This solenoid was NOT the problem with my car.
I tore down the shifter assembly to get to the Shift Lock Stop/Reverse Lock Stop (the lever that is attached to the Shift Lock Solenoid). This lever is the problem (the Shift Lock Stop/Reverse Lock Stop). It appears that it has become slightly loose over time, and when the solenoid activates, the Shift Lock Stop/Reverse Stop Lock lever rattles against the inside of the shift housing. I removed the lever, and epoxied a very small, very thin piece of industrial felt to the edge that was rattling against the shift housing - problem solved!
Note!! This is NOT a repair you should attempt unless you know what you're doing. The shop manual does not go into detail about how to tear down the shifter assy, and it's pretty tricky. It took me about an hour to do this repair, but I've got a quite a bit of experience. Also, my fix is the 'DIY' version of the repair - it's quite possible that replacing the Shift Lock Stop/Reverse Stop Lock lever would also fix the problem, but it's the same amount of work. Besides, this is a poor design - there's very little clearance for the lever, so eventually, it's probably gonna rattle against the side of the shift housing.
Wish I had Pics, but if you look at the exploded diagram in the shop manual (page 14-234) you can see the part I'm referring to. It's a bugger to get access to the lever!
Maybe this will help some of you guys still under warranty - you can point out where the problem lies - if they just replace the solenoid, it will not likely fix the problem. If you're out of warranty, and lacking mechanical skills, you may want to just live with it. My dealer replaced the solenoid under warranty - did not fix the problem. Pretty lame diagnostic skills - they were right on top of the problem and replaced the wrong part."
