05* slow hard start + clock reset
05* slow hard start + clock reset
I bought an 05 TL 16 mos ago. One week ago, I started experiencing *slow* hard starts. The first 5 secs of *slow* cranking sounds like I have a weak battery. Then the engine starts.
I read that this could be related to the ULEV system. I also read in this forum that turning the ignition 2 clicks and waiting for the fuel gauge to fully register helps to lessen the problem. This has cut the *slow* cranking time to about 2-3 secs.
I have the same problem cold starting the car in the morning.
I also noticed yesterday that the clock is accurate when I turn the ignition 2 clicks, but when the car starts the clock always changes to 1:00, until the Navigation warning pops up. As soon as the warning flashes on, the clock resets to the correct time.
Has anyone else experienced these problems?

Thanks for the replies.
I had a defective hands-free unit. It was slowly drawing volts from the battery. The draw was small so I didn't notice the effect on the battery because the car would start up in the morning and recharge while I drove.
In July I left the car in long term parking for 8 days. When I returned the battery was totally dead. The dealer replaced the hands-free system after they detected the draw.
The car has been fine until this current problem. In July I asked the dealer if the life of the battery would be shortened because of the handsfree defect. Of course, he said no.
Now I realize the battery life has very likely been shortened because of the handsfree defect. I think I will ask for a new battery using that argument.
I guess I should have figured out that this was a battery not a ULEV problem.
Has anyone gotten a free new battery based on this type of an argument? Thanks.
