04 TL transmission bangs into reverse
04 TL transmission bangs into reverse
I know this topic has been discussed numerous time and i've done all my research here and on the internet before making this post to reach for help. i have a 04 AT tl and it has few problems with the tranny: the transmission would bang and the car would jerk when putting gear into reverse on a cold start, it's so bad that i felt like the tranny was about to pop out. it would not bang or very slightly when the car is warm or when i try to put the gear into drive first then reveres, from park to reverse or neutral to reverse the tranny would jerk.
slow gear enagement(1 to 2 seconds), rough downshifting sometimes and i heard a loud bang(no movement) in the engine bay area when i cold started my car this morning right after cranking,
slow gear engagement could be the 3&4th gear pressure switches which i will try to replace later, bang after cranking the car not sure what that is but it only happened few times.
now to the main reverse bang issue, first thing i did was trying the 3x ATF refill, it helped a bit but not for long. The most common explanation i found on the forums is bad motor mounts, which i thought had completely nothing to do with this issue, but i replaced my front and side mounts anyways with no results as expected.
another common explanation on here is bad cv axle, but in my case it clearly came from the tranny.
i took my car to 2 transmission shops around my area and they all told me i need to get it rebuilt with no further explanation what the actual problem was. out of frustration I took my car to the dealer for a diagnose and they told me it's internal(like i didn't know) and told me i need to get it replaced. i could get it rebuilt but i just don't have 3k cash sitting around like that.
i know this is a very common issue, can anyone here who had this problem fixed tell me what the issue was? thank you so much

no i haven't done that but i will try later. i forgot to mention but from i read through the forum cleaning filter and solenoids is only a temporary fix just like 3x ATF fill drain, it will come back not long after. I just want to know if this is any internal related issue that i cant get away with either a rebuild or replacement. not sure why this wont happen when i put the gear in drive first then to reverse as i know the fluid takes different path.
