Replace HomeLink LED's

Hey there,

A bulb for the Acura HomeLink garage door open button recently burned out. I can't see to find any data related to it on the forums. I have yet to take it a part as I was hoping to read a bit on it. At any rate, are those bulbs replaceable?

They are incandescent bulbs soldered directly to the PCB. Yes, really.

There's a DIY for replacing them with LED/resistor combos here but it doesn't look like my idea of a fun time.

Since that DIY was written, neo-wedge LED bulbs (which are a smaller package with on-die resistors) have become commercially popular. I wonder if one could be unwound from the wedge base and soldered in? Hmm...

I did not know you could solder incandescent to pcb.
I'm going to check how fast they turn on and off next time.

its a SMD incandescent bulb, the same ones used in cd changer panel backlight, if you have an extra one lying around there are about the same 15 bulbs in the cd changer panel. you can remove them by adding extra flux and solder to the solder joints then clean it and pull the SMD bulb off carefully. if you do not have experience soldering SMD components i would just buy a used dome console and replace the board inside. i would not recommend the LED replacement because it is a lot brighter and won't match the look for rest of your car
