'04 TL trans issues

I'm looking into buying an 04 tl with 125k miles. Biggest question I have is: Do the 04 have tranny issues like the 2nd gen trans issues?

Loaded question.

It has issues, look around OP, not as bad as ggesq mentioned but not bulletproof either. Take note it's also only the 5AT, the 6MT is good to go.

pretty recently there have been many more posts about transmission problems i noticed.

then again, people will tell you out of all the TLs being sold, only a small handful are on acurazine posting about their problem while the rest of the thousands and thousands of TL owners around the world are living happily ever after with their tl.

My '04 had a modification done to the transmission involving a fluid line being routed to the fluid fill port. The goal of this modification is to supply the internal components with more fluid during operation, thus increasing longevity.

It's in Technical Service Bulletin# 04-020.

Look to see if the transmission on your '04 has had this done before you consider buying it.

Its not bad as 2nd tl meaning you replace the AT you won't have to go through 4 more within the next 1000k miles. It not a bullet proof meaning it still happened above normal rate especially for a car that around 130k miles. I hope that clear thing out a bit and here is a little info why honda AT not si bullet proof.

They do have transmission issues. However ss truoghthe said, they are fairly rare.

I have an 06 tl and on the day i got it I realized that mine had the problem. I did the 3rd and 4th switch replacement and the 3x3 flush. It solved my problem entirely. 2 years later i havent had any issues and my car runs beautifully.

So the good news is that even if you get unlucky and end up with one that has a transmission problem, it is most likely a very easy fix and can be done in one afternoon.
