'04 TL melted plug coil
My TL with 100k miles started misfiring and then shut down. Removed/replaced plugs and the first 5 went great but back left coil melted/fried. Trying to get it out, any ideas?

Not uncommon, usually happens because the A/C drain tube got plugged and water dripped down into the ECU. You'll need to make sure that is fixed and then somehow get the melted coil out of the spark plug hole so that you can get a socket on the plug.

^^^Yeah, that could be it also, but I'm guessing ECU because of the "shutdown"...

Did you replace the plug and coil? Was the plug loose? If the plug wasn't loose, then the ECU certainly could be suspect...

something like this just happened to me recently. Misfiring codes on several cylinders plus random misfires. What had actually happened was the spark plug on cylinder 2 broke and caused the spark plug to melt. This was possible after pressure and heat built u caused the plug to break out of its threads. I rethreaded the hole with a kit from o'reileys and put in 6 new plugs and replaced the coil on just that cylinder and its running like new. I doubt your situation has anything to do ith the ECU just do what you can yo get the left overs on that coil out and dont be surprised if you have to rethread it like I did. JUst make sure you use sealant and let it dry for 24 hours before starting the car.
taking a second look at that pic, i noticed alot of oil on the valve cover where you coil gets inserted. REALLY looks like your spark plug popped out now

Spark plug didn't come out. New one went in fine. Still won't start with new plug and coil.
curious about ecu...Will any 04 TL ECU work or does it need to be Vin verified?

My buddy who is the mechanic working on my TL has had some tragedies hit his family so it has been pretty slow going. The battery died and reset all of the codes and even when trying to turn it over it is not pulling any codes. I don't want to spend $1100 to buy a new ECU, would you guys recommend I bring it to the Acura dealership or buy a used ECU and install that? The ECU does not look like it has any damage but I can't figure out what else would completely shut down the motor like this.

I had the exact same issue on two coils simultaneously. The car stalled on the interstate and I coasted off the exit and into the first driveway I could find. The car wouldn't start. We looked for issues and found a burned fuse. I forget which number.
