'04 TL: First Major Mechanical Issue

The car developed a shake in the drive train while accelerating at highway speeds. This is a 6MT with 86K miles. The fix was to replace the left driveshaft. Ouch. Did not expect that.

I am wondering whether it was caused by having so much torque going to the front wheels through the LSD?

Did it fix the shaking?

Just for perspective, my 160 horse AT Accord had an axle that was going as well. So I don't think it's power.

Yes it did. Now it is fine. I have no idea how it happened.

How many miles did you have on it when it went? The AT models don't have an LSD to my knowledge.

I assume it was the inboard CV joint that failed, since they usually manifest as vibrations under load. Was the boot torn/ripped and losing grease?

I read a statistic once that claimed the average driver makes significantly more right-hand turns than left-hand turns. The driver-side (left) axle is under more load when the car turns right.

I would think that LSD might actually increase axle life by equalizing the torque between both axles.

No, neither boots were damaged or leaking. If they were I am sure the problem would have been identified faster. It took a bit to diagnose since there was no obvious damage and the car drove fine below freeway speeds. The tech said that the left axle appeared to be slightly bent once it was pulled out. The right driveshaft had excessive play on the inboard side too so we just replaced both sides. I am the only driver of the car, so it is very odd that it just failed. Never had a problem like this before. My previous car was a '94 GSR that I drove about 150K in 10 years without any work besides the obvious maintenance items.

Thats true its not always too much power that causes these issues. Do you drive around any rough roads?
