04 tl crap paint job, anyone else?
hey guys, I've noticed the spots popping up on my hood and one on the upper panel over the rear drivers side door, they look like cloudy spots on the car, looking closer and after waxing, buffing etc..I realize this is deteriorration of the paint from under the paint, WTF! Contaminents during painting, heat? Or just crap paint on what is not a cheap car. Anyone have this problem and get any resolution from Acura? These are 100% not bird crap related ...thanks

That could come a number of things, including bird crap and tree sap. I have some spots on my hood that most likely came from bird crap. I bought my car used (7900 miles) and I noticed the spots about a week later when I washed it.

can you take a picture of these spots? Paint usually failing resuts in cracks and not a cloudy finish from what I have seen.

Pictures didn't pick up the cloudy spot, looking close it looks like a rust or deterioration is pushing up on the paint causing almost unnoticeable tiny cracks in the paint, under the clearcoat...Acura said have it evaluated by my dealership... If it becomes more noticeable or worse I'm going to look into my options...for now it's more annoying cuz it's am epensive car and I know they're there...if anyone has brought this up at the dealer alreaady let me know the turnout

I bought a used black TL and I didn't inspect the paint close enough. Turns out there were outlines of leaves and bird poop. And there were little spots with cracked clear coat. Under the clearcoat like you describe. The car is still under warranty and I had the dealer look at it but they refused to refinish it. They said it was due to environmental damage.
I have never seen anything like it on any car I have owned. My opinion is that it's part environmental and part weak clear coat.

Not much you can do really except paint the front end. I had my bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors sprayed and cleared. It does help to know someone in the autobody business I guess. At least this summer when I'm drying it off after washing, I won't have to close my eyes when I get to the front of the car. It was pretty unsightly with literally thousands of tiny white chips.
It's basically caused by crap clearcoat; the EPA is making the manufacturers take out the stuff that causes environmental problems and I guess the clearcoat isn't as effective without it.

So imported cars aren't governed by the same mandates? I do know my '03 Accord had much better paint than my TL. And you're right about the European cars; I've seen 15 year old BMW's with original paint look incredible.
