04 TL battery runs down

HELP! Battery runs down on 04 TL, several days after the following:
-three dashes appear on outside temp gage
-telephone icon disappears.
These are same condition in TSB 05-029 but that only apples to 05 TL’s.
Acura Tech assures us that the 05 unit is different from the 04.

Anyone with an 04 have this problem and been able to solve it?

Six weeks after I bought my '04 manual, I managed to stall out at a light. In my rush to get moving, I must have done something like restart the engine too soon after the stall. Anyway, I notice that my outside temp display had flatlined. I let my car sit for the next five days in my garage because I was getting ready for a road trip. Then 36 hours before leaving, I noticed my battery was stone dead. I fired up the engine using my charger, drove the car around for about 15 minutes, then let it sit on a slow charge for about 14-16 hours. All was well and has been ever since.

You can "reset" the temp display by pulling the number seven fuse (as I recall), or by removing your positive battery cable for 4-5 seconds. When it flatlines, apparently the ECU gets stuck in an error loop, pulling your battery down. If you have a chronic flatline condition, you may have a failing sensor.

My 04 battery finally died two weeks ago after 95,000 miles. I was pretty surprised at how long it lasted given the number of threads on how shitty the TL batteries are

This condition first occurred with the origional battery, which I replaced, and has happened twice with the new battery. When I take it o the dealer they check multiple conditions for parasitic draw on the battery.

The frustrating thing is that TSB 05-029 describes the condition, but they claim the fix won't work on an 04, because it has a different unit that the 05. As I have a late 04, could they have installed an 05 component in my 04 car?

I tried that bulliton on them since it describes the condition exactly, but it only apples to 2005 TL's. They say that the 2004 has a HF unit that is different from the 2004

well..hmm.. If there is a current drain somewhere or a short, then to find it, you want to isolate it. And to do that, I would start at the fuse box or boxes. I'm not sure how many there are. But what I would do, is turn off the car, remove the keys, close the doors and turn everything off, then pull any fuse, and place an ammeter or amp-meter in series with the circuit where the fuse plugs in, and check for any current. If there is current on any circuit when the car is compltely off, you know the problem is on that particular circuit. So, that is a way to isolate it down to one circuit or another. If you find a circuit that has a current, then you can pull a diagram to see what is on that circuit and again try to isolate it further by checking each component.

If you can't find any current draws on any circuit after removing all the fuses and relays, its possible the problem is a relay. It wouldnt be a fuse, because a fuse is designed to be a conducter anyway. Only a relay should be "open" if it is not in use. Unless of course its normally closed but that's getting a bit complicated haha. either way, just suspect a relay if you dont find a current drain. But if you do find a current drain on 1 particular circuit, but can't isolate it further down to a specific component On the circuit, then you can just leave the fuse disconnected until you locate the short on that circuit.

So just check for current drain on each circuit by replacing each fuse with an amp meter and observe. Isolatation is the key to locating the problem.
