04 AT started "missing/surging" - EGR Valve
Over the last few days, I started noticing a slight surge at part throttle. It got pretty bad over the past weekend and I thought it might have been bad gas since I drove to the lake and had to put gas in it (I still used Prem). After filling it up with with some trusty Valero Premium, it was still the same and getting worse. I drove it aorund 60 miles to get tires installed on Monday and it was terrible out on the interstate. It acted like it wanted to die a few times. Never set a CEL.
I started looking for problems and found very little about the EGR. I kept it in the back of my head since a co-worker, who had come from the Honda dealership, told me that the pilot's and oddesy's with the same engine commonly had drivability issues and they replaced the EGR Valve.
When I got to the Nissan dealership for tires on Monday (Got a good friend to do the install and alignment for a 30-pack), We talked to another tech in the shop there (who had just come from their local Honda dealer). He asked a few Q's and then almost immediately said "EGR Valve." I called the Honda World where he used to work and went and grabbed a new valve kit. ~$85 for the updated kit for the Hondas. It had an extra gasket (throttle body) and some kind of metal tube that they replace on the Hondas. We changed the tires then lowered the car and swapped the EGR Valve. 10 minutes max.
I'm very pleased to say the EGR Valve has FIXED my surging and the car feels like it used to. Apparently this is common on this 3.2L engine after some miles. Mine has 99K miles. I hope this post will help someone with the same "surging" at part throttle. It felt like the A/C compressor was cycling on and off every 2-3 seconds for a second or two at a time. But the A/C was off.

Really? Well, thats what the Honda parts dept. said crossed over to the Acura number. Anyway, the EGR fit fine and all looked exactly the same. AND it fixed my car's issues.
I ran into the same thing when I went to get a new/reman starter. I had to ask for one for a 99(?) odessy (or something like that) and it had an extra bracket on it. Loosened nut, removed bracket, tightened nut, and installed starter... $120 vs. $350 + shipping.

I wonder if you are describing the same consecutive surging problem as I have. I posted a thread on this.

Nah, I think that one ended up being the APP sensor. I found it didn't act up with cruise control set. Just when in a certain range of pedal position. I have since heard that EGR's are not a big problem on our cars. Wow, that was a year and a half ago??
