$800 for new headlight??

Brought my 05 TL in for what I thought would be a simple headlight replacement. Got a call a few hours later telling me I needed a control module and ignitor to the tune of $800 and only after replacing those could it be determined if the bulb was still good. Then if the bulb is no good I'm looking at another $200 on top of that. I almost fell off my chair. Seriously, a grand to get my headlight working again? This was at my local dealer so I'm going to bring it to the shop I usually use and get another take about all this but I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain and this much money to get a headlight working again. Anyone have any experience with this type repair or have any thoughts on this? Thanks.....

what a crock!! if there was any color shift from that bulb before it died, it's most likely the bulb. replace it yourself using diy.

Try some cheap eBay bulbs first to rule out the bulbs, you can get some (pretty crappy) bulbs for $10 sipped or decent ones for around $50 from The Retrofit Source. If it's a ballast, either buy a used one on here for significantly less or splice in a Morimoto one.

You can get a pair of Depo headlamps for $500 a pair. I can't comment on their quality though.

Depo is a pretty good aftermarket brand.

When a customer walks into a dealership / service
This is the first thing that comes to their mind

yeah thats insane that they are suggesting $800 right off the bat without being certain of whats actually wrong. Seems like the run-around if you ask me. Set aside an afternoon and put in new bulbs, then take it from there.

Delray Acura has the igniter for 179.60, the "control unit" for 175.25. I don't know if that's the same as the ballast.
