WHY SHOULD Manual Trannies HAVE all the FUN...
I've always hated how HIGH the shifter was on the Automatics... so high that in order to dig into the upper center console cubbie, I always had to move the shifter to Drive to get access to the contents in there...
What really motivated me was my boy Eddie... He always mentioned how dope the small shifter is on the M45 Sport our other friend has... So we replicated it...
I did some Modding and I now have a SHORT SHIFTER for the AUTOMATIC
Sorry no before and after... Just an AFTER...
I think that this is the BEST MOD for this car... in close second is the shaved lock button...

alright guys... Let me contribute to the cheap mods...
1. Get yourself a Dremel with a metal cuttig wheel.
2. Get 3 or 4 water moistened towels to cover the surrounding area around the shifter shaft ... (I used dry on my boys TL and the sparks lite it on fire)
3. Mark where the bottom of the shifter knob is NOW and then untwist the shifted knob off the shaft... Then mark where you want your shift knob to be... That difference in distance is what you need to cut off the threaded section of the shift shaft...
4. Cut off the section of threaded shaft ...
5. Screw the knob back onto the shaft and ENJOY...
Note:
I did not use the marking method... I basically used the trial and error method... I cut a 3/4 inch section of the threaded section and test fitted the knob... Then cut additional 1/4 inch sections until I reach my desired location...
Disclaimer:
Modify your TL at your own risk. For off road use ONLY. I will not be liable for any harm caused to a TL interior and any of it's components. Remember measure twice and cut once...

Thanks fellas...
I just thought that this Modification was very usefull and aesthetically pleasing to me... I'm happy that I used my friends TL as the test first (thanks Eddie)
Thought:
Why would a Moderator MOVE this thread from the Performance & Modification section to the Picture Gallery...??? makes no sense to me

No problem Al... We all don't have gorilla grips and are able to put that much torque on that shifter to get that low...
Plus it was physically impossible for me 'cause the wood knob is half the size of the regular shifter...

Damn that looks good. My girlfriend just got me the same Acura wood shifter for my birthday and that sucker is so high up in the air. I'm not too big of a fan of how you can see the thread either, but that shifter is so much nicer than the OEM leather one imo.
I will be doing this soon!

I tried the whole screwing it all the way down yesterday and got about 2 1/2 full turns.lol
I surely don't have the Gorilla grip
I'll give it another shot tomorrow and if I fail - then time to get the cutter

when you remove the shift knob you will see just how much thread there is left is.. more than half the knob if I can remember is threaded... so 3/4" to 1" wouldn't really be that much at all
I acutally had a weighted gun metal 5 speed manual shift knob on my tl-s it was down to the bottom also, and I also was going to put in a shift boot but never really got around to it
