Undying Dreams' Progress Thread (Updated Pictures, Page 98)
I've been on these forums for a month or so and have been posting but I've never posted any pics. I got the TL on Valentine's day, hell of a present to myself huh? It had a little over 88k miles, excellent condition and only 2 chips in the paint. I was supposed to save up a lot more $$ but I jumped the gun, black on black was just too good to pass up.
This is what I had before... (without the Blazer front end)
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4210/mg1199t.jpg[/IMG]
Then I got into this...
And now I'm in this lovely TL.
Now, I just have 2 questions, what are those 2 blue lights for? Any reason at all or just for looks?
And 2) whoever owned the car did a keyhole delete I guess, so how do I get into the car if my battery dies?
I have lots of plans for this car and I'm really enjoying it. I just ordered blue LED's for the interior from v-leds today and will be putting those in when I get them.
I might have to start a progress thread like Rockstar

Sorry to see that happen to your blazer.
Congrats on picking up a clean TL and welcome to the money pit.
The little blue lights are really just for looks.
If you want the key hole back you just need to buy the driver door little trim piece. The lock is under there, just hidden by the rear driver door trim piece the previous owner swapped in.

Those are ambient lights that adds a little more light at night. Not really sure what exactly why they are there as they aren't very bright. Just move your hand and you can see it. You can pop the end cap off. Just open the handle to get a better angle and use a screwdriver to pop it off. It will reveal the keyhole.

yeah the blue lights are for accents. They serve a small purpose by subtly illuminating the center console area. I see the blue on my shifter hand all the time
BMWs have an orange light in the same area.

Welcome and congrats!
Sorry to see you lose the S10 but I think the TL is a great replacement

It is, I didn't have any pics of the S10 before the accident. I got into the accident and then I put on that Blazer front end that you see in the pics. But the truck was starting to annoy me with little stuff and finally decided it was time for an upgrade, and what an upgrade it is. I am very happy with this car.
And CL, I was lurking Rockstar's thread just about all day, maybe we can all meet haha, I'm about an hour north of J, but I need mods done first, I can't show up with a stock TL, I'll be all alone.
I really like that pic of your's and J's car together, black and white next to each other looks so sic!

Thanks dude! I'm in North Carolina though. I met up with Jeremy while I was down in Florida visiting family.

Oh! Whoops lol. My brother lives there, wish I did too to be honest.
Well, in about a month I'll have enough money for the rims and tires, my first big mod, then I attack the headlights and tail lights.

If your battery dies, you DO can use a thin flathead to pry off the keyhole cover IF that ever even happens. The keyhole delete is one of your main and most important mods, man!
PS, thanks for the shoutout in your opening thread, man...QUITE the compliment! Looking like you're starting off with a beauty! And black on black on black...I'm a little partial but looks amazing. You'll be spending loads of money on this car in no time!
Wheels first, then suspension, I'm guessing?!?! I'm sure whatever you got planned will be awesome.

You're quite welcome kind sir! But yes, wheels and then lights, suspension is pricey and I'll have to wait a little bit for that. Plus I'll need your help with what parts to order so I can do it right. I did drop the S10 with spindles (2") and the rears with blocks (3"). A cheap man's drop lol. And the suspension on this is WAY different so I'll need some help with that.

Thanks a lot for that Steven, quite kind!
Hmmm...well, it's PRETTY easy, if you've done that sort of drop, you have all the skill you need to get this done yourself. If you're on a budget, look into springs...a lot of people get by on those. If you CAN save the money, I'd recommend a set of coils...Tein Basics for around $600 replaces your shock with an adjustable perch setup...nice smooth and comfy ride...if you have a grand Tein SS adds rebound adjustability....
The younger crowd with lower backs that can handle a relatively harder ride go with megan, form and function, ht spec etc...around 600 to 800 with height being adjusted separately from preload...but they let you put the car VERY low, if that's your style. Judging from your previous car, probably not...you went from truck to TL so I'm guessing you don't want to lose the luxury ride.
If you ever attend a meet I'll let you ride in mine, it's Tein SS almost all the way lowered.

Congrats! Hope you love it as much as I do.
I could save the money J, just gonna be a little while And you're right, I'd rather have a lowered but smooth ride. I'm not into dropping it as low as you have but just enough to get rid of the huge gap between the tires and the wheel wells. And that's pretty much what I did to the S10, not slammed, but a reasonable height. (Getting too low makes it ride crappy and you have to watch out for things you wouldn't normally have to, I scrape that plastic piece under the bumper enough already haha)

Blue LED Interior Mod
Okay so tonight after work I decided I'd install the blue LED lights I got from VLEDS, ordered them Thursday, got them today. Little did I know, this would also be a nightmare.
1. Removed the fuse and started with the doors first. Got both in and decided to test if I had them in right, wa-la, they worked.
2. Went for the front dome lights, did the right side and then started on the left. Got the lights in and...nothing...wtf...
3. Checked the fuse, blew it. (Blowing this also disabled my wireless remote)
4. Go to auto parts place, lock the doors with the inside switch. Go inside and realize the guy has way too big a fuse, go outside to grab mine to show him. LOCKED THE DOOR AND CAN'T GET IN. Keyhole delete, ya, really handy. Bent my key trying to pry it off. Guy helps me get it off and I get in finally. Get the right fuses and do it there in the parking lot.
7. Put the rear domes in and they work too.
8. Blow another fucking fuse.
9. Replace it and say fuck it, went back home.
10. Home and then realize the passenger door LED won't light, and only that one.
Also, I got these lights for the door and domes
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...99342-1-2.html
I can't say they're bright enough because it's not dark out yet but I can say they fit like shit in the doors and are very loose.
So now I ask. Why is that passenger door light not coming on? Could I have messed something up with the outlet? I even tried putting the factory light back in and still nothing.

Needless to say I have terrible luck with anything I do to a car so I probably won't be modding it further. Just not worth the aggravation and trouble.

Hey buddy...today is a "deep breath" kinda day...just take a step back. You will be modding this car, I promise you. OR, close your Az account and never return! lol.
Ok, you fried one of the circuits on your multiplex unit...how do I know this? Because I did too...
Yay, we're twins. The good news, it's not a big deal assuming you can live with no courtesy door lights. The bad news, unless you want to spend a few hundred dollars and a big PITA to change it out, you will never have courtesy lights again. I thought I did this by accidentally stripping one of the wires when trying to run my door speaker wire...turns out maybe it was the LED's that did it.
Either way, my solution came after about 15 wasted fuses from immediately popping...a few drinks and I shoved a wire jumper in there, got hot, got cool and finally would hold a fuse again. It controls the door lights, keyless entry, alarm etc...sucks to fry it. My solution now, I've done carbon fiber vinyl over the little door courtesy light lenses and called it a day. My guess is you put the LED in backward and they probably don't have a voltage one way thingy and it shorted out the circuit.
PS, LOVE your wallpaper!! Thanks man!

lol yeah, whoever had it kept it nice, interior especially. I just wasn't sure because most of the pics of other peoples' Type-S side markers look kind of smoked, mine just looked cleared. But thanks for the info guys!

So after looking at USR's, those are the cleared side markers and I must say, the smoked ones are much better looking, especially since I plan on getting the smoked tails, I want them to match.
How hard of a task are they to replace? I mean, I could leave the bulbs in there and just replace the plastic lens right?

FK no...
you replace the whole thing.
Fronts, you take back the lining on the inner fender (cut the wheel to one side and use a flathead) and you can reach in and unclip from either end ofthe sidemarker. For rear, you remove 1 clip and 1 screw in fastener and pull the trunk liner back and do the same. Do the rear first to know what you are unclipping...then unplug and swap.
Contact Simon at USR, tell him we sent you and ask him how much for the entire package of smoked tails and sidemarkers shipped. You'll be happy you did.
