TypeS Graduation (DIY)

Finally got to do a base aspec lip on my TypeS. Having no guideline, template, or whatsoever, this wasn't very easy to do and I messed it up big time

I'm posting some of the things I did wrong so others who wanna trim the base lip to fit the S bumper won't make same mistake.

First day result with minor trimming. Unfortunately sides don't wanna stick to the bumper

This was due to bumper and lip touching eachother at this point. So needs some more cutting.

Second day... More cutting I did. Now, do not cut them like mine. If I'm right, you'll only need to cut the sides to line up with typeS's sloping bumper line.

First Trimming

Second Trimming + Around the fogs will need to be trimmed down too.

Final Trimming and now bumper & lip lines up and fits!

Result

Gonna touch with some touch-up paint tomorrow where black polyurethane shows up. Probably will need some bodywork in the future like jptl04's lip or get another lip and cut/trim it better.

Will post up some daylight pictures soon

Once you get the body work done it will be looking good

will definitely need some body work near future.

wonder if cost of body work will be more or less than getting another set of base lip to work on.

Well I give you props for trying this because its no easy task, and I have seen jptl04's car and I think it is amazing. However with yours I think it still needs quite a bit of work to look good. IMO it looks like you trimmed the sides a little too far back. If you look at jptl04's his base lip actually curves in at the fog light just like the bumper does. Not sure how you can recover from that besides maybe molding the lip to the bumper?

That's a 07-08 base A-spec lip. This lip doesn't have the gray textured plastic part.

04-06, 07-08 Base A-spec lips are different.

props for taking this on yourself, not easy

here's a quick pic i took with my iphone. you can see here how the edge was recreated using a polyurethane resin. you might have cut too much, dunno if a body shop will be able to make a lip or edge like mine. what did you trim it with? dremel would have been ideal. it wasnt cheap, cost of the lip+bodywork+paint pretty expensive lip! but worth every penny.

Minkl-kudo's to you for taking this on. I know it's been painful, but in the end (just like Jaime's), you'll have a better looking nose than the Aspec's. It is worth the time, money and trouble.

not easy at all trying to fit it right. one of the reason i tackled on this was someone in here also trimmed it to fit it and he said it wasn't much to trim

i 'm not sure how he managed it to fit it without major cutting.

btw... i used sharp razors and snipping scissors to cut them. dremel will be easier and faster but they melts the bumper and won't cut as clean as snipping them.

this was an bitchy job to do. never thought it'll be damn hard.

but that gap on the sides aren't that bad since i cut them out by aligning the lines of the bumper. and even with that gap on the sides, it looks much cleaner than typeS lip. will never go back to typeS lip anymore

base lip is definitely worth it but its really pain in the butt. feeling really exhausted after two days of trimming and test fitting

hope that i find a shop that can clean up the lines and make it look more oem at resonable price. unless i'll be getting another lip and tackle it again myself since i know where to cut now.

yeah, i also seen that i asked him to post close-ups but he never did. the guy that did mine was some old school dude, he really knew his shit. when i saw the completed lip i was like "DAMN!" that looks OEM.

with a dremel you could control the shape of the cut better, just gotta get the correct bit on there. i used it to cut my rear bumper when attaching the rear a-spec skirt. it looks like a small thick gear, worked great!

and yes it does look alot cleaner than the Type-S mask. imho

yea, i asked for a close up too but never did. and can't even find that old thread either. it would've helped alot if he posted a close up.. now i gotta look around for good shops around my area.

never thought that was a cutter. i have it in my dremel set but didn't know the use for it. could've saved cutting time in half

wow that was some serious cutting of the base lip.
I just just went with the 04-06 front A-Spec lip on my 07-08 Base bumper. there was some cutting involved but i took it to the body shop.
Will try to get pics.

Honestly, I wish that JP's lip was an OEM option, along with the Aspec. It's nice to have choices. But I like Jaime's a lot better than the Aspec.

Hmn...
Now just to wait to see someone put the o4-o6 a-spec on the Type-S.
Unless I'm going to have to do that after some cash flow 8-)

yea, no one had close up pictures or information regarding custom fitting a base lip on a S bumper so i had to be the one to f*$% it up

and typeS kit.. i've been running typeS lip for little more than 2yrs but did not liked it. i like typeS lip on am or nbp color but wasn't feeling it on wdp.

here's my previous pics with ex lip
