The story behind my small fleet of 3rd Gen Acura TL's
For those that know me on this site you are probably familiar with the fact that I have been on here for a long time and that I have probably had the most Acura TL's of anyone on here. I have even had PM's asking why I have had some many. So tonight I figure why not post up my favorite picture of each one and give a brief explanation behind why I have had so many.
Well first off the main reason behind having so many is because of my car buying addiction. My wife has diagnosed me with a car buying disease. I dont know what it is but I just love buying and selling cars.
So here goes......
My first ever Acura TL. A 2007 NBP with Taupe base TL with nav. Bought this car all stock and did a couple minor things such as Type S wheels and tail lights. It was a great car but I was kicking myself after only a week of buying it for not getting a Type S.
So ofcourse not even six months later the most beautiful KBP Type S shows up on the lot of a local small car dealership. I test drove it just for fun and fell in love with it. So here is my second Acura TL. A 2007 KBP with Taupe/Ebony interior 5at. I had this TL for the longest of them all at almost two years. I ended up selling this one because I ended up buying a 2006 Corvette Z06 and having the Type S and Z together was a bit pricey. So I sold the S and bought a cheaper daily driver. I am also proud to say this Type S sold to and is still owned by a active forum member :-)
I had that previous combination for a while and ended up having someone offer me a deal that was too good to be true to buy my Z06. So I sold that and then eventually got sick of my lame daily driver so that leads me to yet again another TL. The next two Type S's I will keep combined in this thread because the ownership was relatively short between them and were one after the other. I first purchased a 2008 NBP with Ebony 6mt from an out of state dealership in Kansas City MO. The car was great however once the temps starting going up in summer I noticed the car had some sort of weird surge during acceleration that the dealerships could not figure out. I couldnt get over it so I ended up selling it. I then replaced it with an identical 2007 Type S 6mt that I purchased from a private seller in Dallas TX.
Here is a picture of the two cars together prior to the 2008 being sold. You wont find two 6mt Type S's together like this very often :-)
Now I know I will get flamed for the reasoning behind selling that black 6mt, but there is two reasons I decided to sell that car. First reason is because I just did not like the manual transmission on these TL's. Although the transmission itself was great, the clutch and throttle feel was horrible IMO and even after months of owning that car and atleast a decade of manual driving experience I still found myself struggling to master that car. I also always found myself thinking about if I was gonna start off smooth or jerk going into 2nd etc etc. Dont get me wrong it was fun sometimes, but for a daily driven family sedan enough was enough so I sold it. The second reason I sold the car besides the transmission was because I was in love with the new 2011+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. After selling the black TL I bought a new 2012 Jeep Overland. After about a year of owning that and enjoying every minute of it stupid me was browsing autotrader and found what appeared to be a incredibly clean and very low mileage one owner 08 CBP Type S. Just for fun I emailed the guy and put in a sort of low offer without thinking much of it. A week later I got an email saying he would accept that offer. A couple weeks later I was on a flight to PHL to buy and drive the car home lol. So now I have a Jeep Overland and a mint 08 Type S. The Type S was cleaner than I thought it would be and ofcourse im starting to like it the more I drove it. So I decided to list both cars and see which one sells first and keep the other. To my surprise the Overland received a TON of interest from all over the country. I ended up selling it for the same exact price I bought it for new a year earlier minus taxes and dealer fees. A deal I would probably never find again so it was a no brainer to sell it.
So here I am today loving every minute of my 2008 CBP with Ebony 5at TL-S. Even though my other cars were all great this is my favorite. Sorry for such a long thread but I figured an explanation behind each would be good. Enjoy!!

hey James mind as well sell the CBP and getting the rest of the TL-S color like ASM, MRP and WDP :P.
nice story lol, I would sell and buy another car if I am not losing money in the process too.

Op, amazingly clear photos...absolute nothing comes close though to a nighthawk black pearl when she's all cleaned up like yours.

Sweeeet, glad to know I'm not the only person who has gone through TL's like underwear. You are right, NBP sure does look great, but we all know all it takes is one drive around the block for dust to pile up and show like crazy. One cool thing about the CBP is it kind of even looks clean when it's completely dirty.

Yeah the grass is usually always greener on the other side. My KBP Type S had the Taupe/Ebony interior and I liked it, but having had both I do prefer the Ebony interior. I think what really catches my attention on the all black is the fully black side pillars and roof. I just think it looks really striking when your inside the cabin compared to the light gray roof. Either way though both interiors are gorgeous!

Damn, that's a lot of TLs! I didn't realize you had owned that many lol. Glad to see that you had tried other car brands and always come back to the TL. That styling will be just as timeless as the Legends.

Interesting story man. I am currently on my 2nd TL and my first one being NBP I know the pain you went through. However, when it was clean it was a stunning car.

I myself am guilty of owning more than one TL, although only one Type S. First one was a NBP '05, and I agree, my OCD about have a clean car just didn't mesh well with black. ASM is working out great tho!
Anyway, thanks for sharing. We'll have to try to get together for a shoot sometime, I'm up near Elgin.

They all look good, idk which one i like better! LOL
3g TLs definitely are addicting. I bought one a year ago, and was mocked by my husband for it. About 3 days after purchase I asked my husband to run a quick errand up the road for me, a trip taking 10 minutes tops. Since my car was blocking his in the driveway he took mine out. Well, he was gone for over an hour joyriding, and needless to say about a week later there were 2 TLs now sitting in my garage LOL. My kids will be driving in a handful of years and they have already made it known they want a car like mommy and daddy. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 5 TLs sitting in my driveway before you know it LOL
