And so it begins... 04 TL w/Nav

So I bought the car back in July of last year and after being on here for a bit and reading about experiences that others have been through and seeing all the work that people put into their rides, I decided to get my toes wet. I'd like the changes to be subtle; will post more shots as the transformation continues. For now, it starts small - changing the interior lights to LEDs (which I realize has been done to death!), changing the license plate lights. Lip spoiler is waiting to be installed; hoping to have it on by next week. Other mods are in the mail...*sigh*

I will need to find another job to support this habit which I know is going to be bad for me...

Good job man I love my interior LEDs its one of the few mods the average person will notice. I have spent like 5-6 grand on my car and nobody will notice a thing except my LEDs.

Tigger, I also did my doors and my center console compartment and really like it. I did my doors in red, since I have a Type S. I really like your ensemble!

Thanks. I put in the dome lights in the back first and started feeling like it was a bad decision, cause comparing it side by side with the original bulb, the difference was a bit noticeable. But once they were all switched out and I shut off the garage light to get a proper perspective, I started warming up to the change. Anxious to do more on the car!

Found it on kijiji, which turned out to be someone who also had it listed in the black market on here. Only thing is that its a different colour from my car, so I'm looking to get it painted (going to my friend's dad's body shop today) and then I will either install it myself or just ask them to do it if I'm pressed for time.

Ok, so less than a week later, on to mod #2! Got the lip spoiler painted today; picked it up after work and raced home to install it... more like crawled home, since everyone seemed to be on the highway for the long weekend. Anyways, after measuring way too many times and readjusting templates and much fear about putting holes in the car, I did what had to be done and this is what happened:

Spent the next half an hour admiring it and taking pics (which I will redo cause the camera has a nice way of showcasing how some parts of the house really should not be shown, like the dreaded garage wall). Hopefully the weather is good tomorrow, so I will snap some more.

And mod #3 now complete! I had picked up a tvandnav2go unit from someone on here; got it in the mail last week, but the Boyo camera that I had ordered from eBay was out of stock. Managed to get it from another source and that was delivered this week (funny how you learn some stuff through all this, like don't let UPS ship stuff to you from the US cause they love to gouge customers with silly 'brokerage' fees .. lesson learned!). Spent a few hours getting it installed - again, nervous about cutting drilling, but finally worked it out. Will take some pics over the weekend to keep a log of what I've done so far. All this in 2 weeks? At least my Fridays are a bit more exciting now that I'm working on the car

So after I installed the backup camera in mid-April (it was done in hurry as I was anxious to see that it worked), I had to re-align the camera about a week later, as it was not angled properly and I was seeing more of the rear bumper than objects behind the car. Still wanted to make it an inconspicuous as prossible, but I wasn't about to try and ruin the car in the process. I guess based on the size of it (as everyone else who installed one mentioned about), it's tough to conceal. In any case, here's how she looks now:

I took it out to the GO-station parking lot and along an unlit road to see how it would work out:

I've actually gotten used to it at this stage, always finding a reason to backup when parking.

This looks like an ultrasound...I was like where's the baby? haha

I love what u've done so far. It's refreshing to see subtle/tasteful modding. Good job

Thanks man. That's what I'm going for - trying to keep it understated.

Yeah, I kinda thought the same thing about the ultrasound when I pulled over on the road and I was testing out the camera... LOL.

LOL I thought it looked like an ultrasound too. The back-up cam is nice and visible in an unlit spot but the led light makes a difference. How much was the cam if you don't mind disclosing the price and where'd you get it from?

And now, mod #4 (I'm not sure why the count, maybe just a reminder of sorts on how far I can/should go before its too much - on the car and the wallet). Installed the iSimple adapter on Sunday evening after fiddling around with a simple plug on the back of the radio and cracking the panel under the steering column from sheer brute force (or maybe I was just hungry). In any case, it runs well. Gives an annoying message about switching to airplane mode whenever I plug in the iPhone initially, but works fine after that. I opted to run the cable through the upper storage area under the radio, rather than the centre console, as I find that spot a bit more convenient.

I've got to admit, doing all these little things on the car is pretty cool - yesterday I caught a glimpse of how insanely wired TL's are.
But it's also cool how much you can tweak them (within reason).

I am wondering if Sirius radio is the same as XM in terms of using it with iSimple for the TL.
