Small interior mod

ok guys i've been thinking of creating some more custom interior touches to add to my car, so i was thinking maybe make another set of illuminated sills. so i decided on making a small prototype for my floor mats. the sills would be created in the same way only bigger scale. this is what i came up with. the material is brushed aluminum, the light source is an EL tape behind a thin piece of plexi. they are wired to my domes. on to the pics

here is the small sill plate the "TL" is exactly the same is the ones on the floor mats

here it is powered up with some white EL tape

i cut out the embroidered "TL" and embedded the sill flush to the carpet, and hot glued it into place.

matches and compliments my OEM Type-S illuminated sills, i know alot of people wont like it cuz of where they live with the weather and such, some people even cover up their mats completely with those fugly rubber covers. but i live in SOCAL the weather is nice for the most part, plus im anal with my car so they will stay looking good for a while.

comments welcome

Damn you made those dude! That's badazz!! I want the sils myself but can't find any...but that's a great idea in my book! I live in jersey and the snow might effect those in peoples cars here. My type s is not my daily driver. I only put maybe 10miles a week so they would be perfect for me!

water wont affect them they are completely sealed. stepping on them wont damage it either, they are flat less than a 1/4" their position is not right under ones foot but back towards the seat so they should be cool, and avoid damage

thanks, yes they do. i got these over two years ago

the wiring runs on the underside the mat and goes under each seat the wire is not visible at all, the mat can easily be disconnected from the power source i used these connectors

I like it! maybe if you do make these for the floor mats you should make one in red so it can match the footwell lights in the type s. someone was selling the illuminated sills but I didn't buy them, since I had my accident back in June. I wasn't sure if I would get my car back or not and thats why I passed up on the sills. I'm hoping to find them again in red.

Looks good Jamie!! I'm digging it. Where did you get the brushed aluminum from?! And the el tape you got it from glowhut as well? I haven't had time to get back on trying to cut the oem sills yet myself.

i was thinking, if you're worried about them getting scratched and such, pick up the screen protectors for phones and stick it over them.
