Slow restoration thread

Well i am admit that I got a soft spot for 3G TL. Ok ok I guess I got addiction issues LMAO.

Now lets get down to the real talk, I just browsing local craigslist for a 06-08 TSX MT until this TL show up for a really good price. I ran the history check and the car title come back clean, the first 2 owners take greats care of the car.

They even had the dealer replace the crack dash and center console, anyway here are some pics for this slow restoration built, I can say thanks to MR. ASM Type S MT with a Fox body built and Ghost TL for the inspiration lol.

Well I will keep the thread update as maints log and any other things happens with the car.

BTW the car is an 05 MT with Navi has 148k miles at the time of purchase.

I got a chance to work on it for couple of days, here are the pros and cons of the car.

Cons

1. The car was involved in a rear end accident in which the previous owner left untouched. He said its happened on the freeway during rush hours and some lady driving a Corolla tap his TL the result is a dent in rear right lower quarter panel (paint still intact). Rear bumper has paint chip and a small hole along with a tab popping out, other than that really no major issue very small cosmetic.

2. Front and rear valve cover is leaking and will need to be replace, I will address this issue and at the same time I will do a valve adjustment.

3. HFL took a dump (I am not surprise, however what surprise me is that Honda discontinued all the 04-06 module).

4. Previous owner work on the car and some one the thing he put them back the wrong way.

5. The car has 143k miles with 3 owners so I don't know how much life the clutch has left.

6. Some one in the past 2 owners decide to put a Weapon R SRI and now it missing the factory airbox. IF anyone got a stock 04-06 airbox wanna part away let me know.

7. The car has stage 3 exhaust mod (LOL)

8. Previous owner told me recently he switch back to Honda MTF from GM Friction modified.

9. The leather is hard and brittle.

10. drive belt tensioner is making noise.

11. Navi no longer works.

12. Both LCA bushing is done.

Pros

1. TB/WP already replaced with Asin kit back in Sept 2016

2. Dash and cup holder along with center console lid got replaced back in 2012 under warranty at my local Acura dealer.

3. Rack and pinion, HFL, PS pump, LCA bushing and rear main seal got replace back in 2012 @ 70k miles at my local Acura dealer under extended warranty.

4. First 2 owners took greats care of the car.

5. No rip anywhere inside the interior.

6. MT with reasonable miles and in fair condition.

Now lets the pics do all the talking.

current drive way status.

dirty interior

the previous owner told me he replaced the amp which from a 08 TL and the seat belt buckle. I asked why he didn't take it to Honda? he said one of the local Acura dealer want to charge him diagnostic fee $145. This dealer is the same dealer that misdiagnose one of our member car in the past.

one key fob is death so I replace both battery meanwhile I use nail polish to paint over the spare key fob prevent the button sign from wearing off.

All the records that come with the vehicle.

The 2nd owner did beat extended warranty lol.

uh we got a problem.

No HFL no problem, $135 solution of music and handling phone call using factory steering wheel control.

every door hinge is dry out and the door feels heavy.

silicon grease and its open and close like new again.

luckily I just order a bunch of filters for extra spare part.

my son said "this TL has the same power as my red TL" lmao this guy is going somewhere.

all clean up

rear seat is all clean up

previous owner using charcoal filter and the new one is OEM from Honda

I think there's still room left in your driveway for a NBP and ABP 3rd Gens to make the collection complete.

Glad I've inspired 3G enthusiast owners to take care of and restore some of these beauties.

I'm trying to think if I actually kept all my 3G's I'd have 9 i think lol
real talk @truongthe I am thinking of getting a manual trans beater to truly learn to drive one. I can get you to the hospital in an emergency but don't have the patience to drive through normal stop and go traffic lol
I'm thinking about flipping the MRP for an a MRP/RRP 3G and KBP Type-S. I would love to have that combination in my driveway.

At least the general maintenance isn't that bad

I want another 3G 6MT because it's a perfect daily driver that's still just fun enough and looks relevant enough and conservative enough on gas...plus, maintenance is a cinch.
I definitely don't need another car.

General maints isn't that bad especially the previous owner already did the TB/WP service. This is why I bought the thing without hesitation, honestly the TL MT is weird, one day I can drive smooth and the other day its jerky. I guess I gonna have to find out how to find this clutch sweet spot, If I get another 3G TL it would be a Type S MT.

There is no clutch sweet spot....it's a self adjusting clutch. So depending on how you drive, it will effect your clutch feel and engagement

So today the weather seem to be better, I order a new set of wheel lock for my wife TL and use the extra OEM lugs to replace these cheap ass lugs lol. Beside that front and rear brake pads seem low so I will do the brake fluid flush along with new pads and rotors. No worry I got 4 spare Brembo calipers just in case the thread is stripped.

Yes i know the wheels actually belong to an 06 model lol.

Lol which one should I put on the new TL

I never had a chance to wash it so the car is dirty.
