"Rising Sun" Engine Cover

Some of you may have seen my feeler thread on the idea i had for a custom paint job on my engine cover.

Well here are the finished pics with a short "DIY" of how it was done.

1. I taped off the section of the cover that i wanted to stay bronze.
2. Gave the un-taped section a light sanding with 600grit sand paper to rough it up a bit.

3.Applyed the first coat and wet sanded out some imperfections.

4.Applyed a second and third coat

5.Removed Tape

6. Enjoyed a freshly painted engine cover.

Let me know what ya think of the finished product.

You should continue this theme with other pieces of the engine bay.

Clear coat wasnt in my mind today. I may do and i may not. None of the other panels are clear coated..and i kinda like the flat color they have.

Thanks for all the compliments guys

Thanks man.
The new Fujita's with krinkle black paint do look really good, installed my brothers with his on his RSX-s. It will be that or some gold heat reflective tape/wrap if i can find some.

X2! I'm not feeling the different colors though. Continue the paint lines to the rest of the panels. Paint the CAI bronze, then figure out what to paint the aluminum cover.

OOOOHHHHH a bronze CAI?

Thanks,
All the different colors would have just been way too much for my liking. Im happy with the subtle contrast in the bronze/black. I think it will all tie in nicely once i powder my wheels bronze.

Looks sharp!

I was assuming that with a "rising sun" motif you were going to use red and white - and paint the oil cap red.

I've been contemplating doing a paint job on my engine cover that requires extensive taping. Like a checkered flag or something. Now I got even more inspiration! Thanks!

Thanks everyone.
I was nervous about leaving the cover on for my 2 hour drive last night. When it came time to leave i totally forgot about it...checked it when i got to where i was going and it held up perfectly.

about the heat, did you use high temp paint? do you even think it may be necessary to use high temp paint?

and if there is a clearcoat, it may turn a slight yellow from the heat no?

Duplicolor High Heat for the black.

The bronze was done a couple months ago with Duplicolor Wheel Paint.

As for the clear coat i have no idea...i know very little on paint.

It was duplicolor wheel paint. First bought it to do my brothers cover on his RSX, but ended up using it on mine too.

Thanks again everyone. Ill have to post some more pics when i get my strut bar done, and with the ARC rad cap.
Hopefully this weekend if not its gonna be after xmas.
