^^^

from what I have read, the brand new MT is just sweet....

do a Slave cylinder delete (or whatever they call it), some GM Syncromesh fluid....and time to do some burn outs

I think for new transmissions you need to do a drain and refill in a few thousand miles to get the metal shavings out....

WITH THAT SAID, i dont think you will be getting a new MT....it will most probably be an old MT

Anil, look
Kind of same issue

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/tranny-slip-jerk-slow-reverse-engaging-892432/

If I'll get the MT swap, I will tell him to do the Slave delete +GM Syncromesh fluid of courseee

I want new tranny too

hey, I had my MT replaced a couple years ago and have had no issues.. i also think i didnt have issues with the old MT but I didnt know much about MT when it got done.. I just wanted it fix.. I did however get the old MT gears and stuff... I also have like 20 bottles of syncromesh stocked up since wasnt sure if they were going to come back with it... I dont need the old MT gears so if you want hit me up.. I could not see anything wrong with it... one thing to note is that I learned driving MT on those gears... I however never really grinded them.. I had a good teacher... I just think the stealership wanted to jerk a noob like me around.. then again it is my fault.. I should have learned more before letting them do that

The beak looked too out of place initially, but I love it now. I have zero problem with the beak.

they made it smaller after the 2012's but still

If you compare the number of 2nd Gen RL's that sold with 3rd gen RL's (with the beak), you will be surprised....and even though the sales fell through the floor, new Acura models continue to have a beak....

2nd gen RL:

3rd gen RL:

hell they even messed up the SUV's

2009 MDX

2013 MDX

I think the beak only looks subtle on the TSX and RDX

I think if 4G was launched with this grille, it would have blown the competition:

Fuh yeah, that grill is the king

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest I like the first 4g grille
I don't know why,

First 4g with sh-awd looks sooo good to me in stock
Don't like the new new 4g grille

Since I caught you here... listen
Remember asian friend from Acura servise...that white crazy evo
Told him yesterday to call me.
Just had a quick talk with him.
Gave the codes and blah.... he said do the MT swap

told him about bruce and Vadi, he said do it
but do Stage II clutch.
WTF is that? He said it's harder or something but I had to run to class, couldn't talk to him details. Will see him this saturday at a meeting

Also he asked something about hauling. What's hauling?
Because usually we get a problem with 3rd gear and we have to haul...... blah blah
Check the 3rd gear

Anil, can you combine these?
J. is a pro understanding me too
Jeremy you there?

^^^ you like the grille coz you like dookie

yes Stage 2 clutch is definitely better tham OEM clutch since it "clamps" better and hence it can handle more power/torque....do you need it? I dont think so....just go with Stage 1 if you had too....Stage 2 is more of a track use...

Also as you go higher in stages, they need to be warmed up before optimal use....just like brakes, if you put track brakes on your street car, you will be squealing while the brakes warm up...

not sure what he means by hauling....but i dont think you gonna HAUL anything with your TL...

I guess so, saw it on another RSX again

True Anil, I got it now you are right

Does this look normal?

Tranny dipstick and yes it smells like hell

By the way, I am focusing on the transmission but... what the heck happened to my rear cat?
That's what the code gave... rear cat

I will look to see what is left of the MT and take pictures and send it over.. but not until after this weekend

as for Stage 2 versus Acura clutch... i have never driven one but my cuz had a stage 2 clutch in his prelude and when he drove my car he was suprised how smooth the Acura was... this is just a guess and other MT folks who have driven or know more about can chime in... but i think stage 2 clutch is built more for performance and hammering down... it also might be same price or cheaper... but as you do anyway you got your homework cut out for you on this

Ok I usually don't drive like a daily but still guessing it's too much. Stage I is the way

Thanks, don't bother with the pictures yet..
Let me first change this fluid on Saturday and see what's going to happen.

What makes sense to me now is, that fluid lost it's purpose.
People who have problem with tranny, looks like

Gets a harder shifts, mine was smooth all the time, just a big delay
No vibration occurred as well
No flashing of D occurred
I was able to use the SS mode and change gears

and after changing to Redline, I noticed that it gets effected by the heat so much. I mentioned that earlier here too, that made me think about transmission cooler. Whenever it got hot, shifting slowed down.

So after all these summer heats, and I explained the conditions on that day with a/c and blah blah, I am guessing now fluid lost it's purpose totally, and bigger delays between engagement occurred.

That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Not even a low fluid. I know how low transmission fluid acts. I didn't feel it this time.

Let's see what will happen on Saturday

Meko, first off, was that the level of the transmission fluid? HOLY FUCKING HELL !!! it should be between the 2 dots...

the color itself looks ok, the fluid does not look burnt....but if it smells burnt then game over....

Jeremy, the code he is getting is for the rear cat (bank 2) downstream if am not mistaken....

Meko, I would leave that code alone for now...so get the transmission fixed and we will go from there....also, do you have a magnetic drain bolt? the oem bolt is magnetic but not powerful one, so order a powerful magnetic drain bolt....

when you drain the fluid, take a magnet to the drained tranny fluid, see how much metal shavings it catches....if it catches a lot, and decent sized chunks, your transmission is gone...if its tiny tiny shavings, then it might just be the level or something else....

Downstream is a regular sensor, upper is a/f and affects lean/rich and sucks. I'd leave it alone too, Anil has the right idea.

About the shavings, I have a feeling it's bad business to make a judgement based on just that but I agree that it would not bode well given all the other symptoms. Meko, how serious are you about going 6MT?

Yes it is the tranny level
It smells like old ones while I did drain/fill
Smell that I got even replacing the fluid after 1k again

J. I think MEKO knows, 3rd cat has no sensors on

I know the magnetic bolt of course, kept cleaning it after every drain/fill
Will see if it got more on Saturday

Where do I order that bolt from?
Name, code?

I just replaced the sensors on my both cats. BUT only upper ones.
Just wanted to replace them, old ones still look good. So didn't have any problems.

Yeah I agree with J. kind of hard to be sure by the shavings, because I always had some stuff on it, every time. And remember Anil, my trany shifts nice, just a gap.

Unlike those other guys that posted, seeing D flashing, or hard shifts, or getting stucked blah blah

Jeremy, I got pretty serious with Bruce but parts come to 2300, labor comes to 1600 (a guy in Virginia will install it)
+ I have to buy a clutch.

With time, hotel, gas, what the hell, that's like at least 4500
So kind of hoping fluid fixes the problem.
If it shows a little improvement, will do another drain/fill with replacing the filter again. Tranny filter.

DRAIN THAT FLUID OUT !!!

that level is ridiculous !!! its wayyyy toooo high....our tranny's are very sensitive to type and level of fluid....

yes you cant say much by shavings but as i mentioned if you see a huge mega shaving in there, it means your gears have been grinding....

this is what I would do...order 4 x D4 and 2 x Type F....

go for a drive, get the fluid a little hot and then drain it out !!! I am betting ~5 qts will come out....fill it with 3 quarts (2xD4 and 1xType F), also change your transmission filter....

drive normally for ~50 miles then repeat....yes 3qts of fluid and transmission filter...

remember the fluid level should be between the 2 dots on the dipstick

I want to see a huge mega shaving!

NAOWWWWW

That's a lot of money, Meko...for that, sell your car and pick up a 6MT. They're cheap enough now. OR, do the fluid and pressure switches and stop driving like a 17 year old boy.

Jeremy...there was no other way for me put it that Meko would understand LOL...

I said a "chunk" in my previous post but well, a MEGA SHAVING is what we are looking for...

Chad, the 3G TL was the lowest in power when you compare it to the G/A4/335/etc....but a lot of peeps bought it because of the excellent interior and exterior styling...the 4G is again the lowest on power and the exterior styling ruined the sales....with a better grille and AWD and 6MT options, tell me again how it wouldnt have

Yeah right, I could take G35 and A4 anytime anyday

Thanks for the picture Anil.
Yeah I know how to replace it but I don't take out #12, just move it a side.

I was planing to just use Acura DW1 from now on.
After Redline, that whining noise started, delay started after heating up the tranny, and now this.

May be it's the mixture. You are using only Type-F and running strong still.
I am thinking of doing 3x3 Acura DW1, IF it works out good tomorrow.
May be later on, go to Type-F,,, may be

---------------

Chad, J. same here.
After this Type-S, MT swap sounded stupid to me. 70k miles on it

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...aff=national#0

One owner, looks like a clean car to be honest, and stock
A-Spec looks like from the factory as well...
If a person installed all those A-Specs, he would've done a CAI or some other stuff as well... I guess

Called them but they said they have to see my car to give a price for it...
I said ok bye
He said wait give me your number, I 'll make someone call you

But anyways, hope this tranny works tomorrow

Yes, you dont have to remove #12 completely...you just take the screw off and move it out of your workspace...

I meant #11/22/21/24 need to be put together exactly that way....even the filter is directional....so it can only go in 1 side...

dont worry about changing the switches, that wont help if the tranny is dead...just do a drain and refill, twice and change your filter both times....am hoping something will be caught in the filter and your transmission will live....

ALSO, put the right amount of fluid in there....that level is VERY HIGH !!!

Anil, all the things that you said on the phone makes sense now...
To be honest whenever you said D4, I always thought about the stock Acura DW1 ATF

BUT!!!!!, with this Acura fluid, shiftings got so smooth that I totally can't even say if the car shifts or not, if I turn on the radio.

Guys, of course drove the car today. With slow speeds, it's totally normal. Can't even say there is a gap.
High rpm gear changes? Yup, delay

When meko drives slow...

After the drain fill, my first gear especially shifted way smoother.
Low speed and HIGH RPM shifts were just like old times....
BUT!!!!!!!! After driving for couple of miles, same delays at high rpm again.

So I am driving slow now like a normal person, and it feels totally like old time.

I didn't even change the filter yet.

Checked the codes. Rear cat code is gone Don't know why it came anyway

Same torque converter code came on again.
Anil told me it's not torque convertor, if gap is only at 3rd and 4th gear.
3rd and 4th is the most. Couldn't feel a gap on others. Did before though....

Friend checked the codes on computer, what other services said blah blah, he came to me and said it's the 3rd and 3th gears

Also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I filled only 2.5 quarts ATF
and the dipstick still showed it in the middle
So left it at 2.5

----------------------

MT SWAP?
Yes Anil, again, I am thinking to keep the car to the end...as I told you
Buy a SUV for a wife
and go for Aston Martin as my next car.
I won't pay 50k for an Audi S5 and may be not have the same fun as I would with my TL with Manual tranny

So...if this rebuilts going to be around 1500
I might go with 3900 and do MT swap
Why rebuilt it, it's AT again
Deal with the fluids again, filter, or drive slow so nothing happens to it

I mean let's do a MT swap
250lbs less, better mileage, use it life time, no need to worry about hitting the gas, no more stupid vibration at redlight because of the engine mounts, no more holding the brakes when you stop

REARS
Still looks high to me
I can't imagine putting 18" there
I don't care about the wheel gap, I care about where that side A-Spec sits at

I totally don't know what to do, car shifts like normal.... when I drive like a normal person

Won't think about MT for 2 weeks... let me graduate first
After that I'll have time to do some stuff

What I hate is, not being sure if tranny could go crazy all of a sudden one day
Because gotta drive to NJ for swap

Anil told me to not use D anymore, since the biggest point I always missed was how D drops the gear from 4th to 2nd and bypassing 3rd

So SS from now on

Meko...you put the post very well....

well since the 5th gear is not an issue, you can slowly get on the highway and keep driving to NJ without an issue....

not sure why your tranny dipstick level is that high....is should be wayyy lower....

am all in for a MT swap....not sure if I will pay $4000 for it though....but its your dime brother...

Thanks Anil. Jeremy should be proud of me
True right, even if it fails, take it to 5th gear, drive to NJ.

I don't know about the dipstick bro but should I fill all 3 quarts next time?
2.5 seems pretty good

I can't pay 4k. My dad would anyways if car doesn't work. But I know he would tell me to rebuilt it... but
I am going to tell him swap is only $2900 I could pay the other 1k
So there is you graduation gift to me dad Done
