Plowing the snow with my TL

I was on my way back home because Friday classes were canceled due to the weather, it ended up snowing 10 inches.

So I was having some difficulty getting up and through my drive way I must have tried several times.

The snow was up to my front bumper, deep snow and a already low TL don't mix very well.

Far away shot, doesn't depict how much snow there was but you can see how many tread marks I made trying to get up the driveway, turning VSA of helped as I just get the gas steady and slowly pushed my way through.

Notice the rusted lug nut.

Its a shame I had so much trouble even with brand new Yokohama Avid WS4s, less than 400miles on the, and they didn't really impress me in the snow. They aren't much better than the Bridgestone Turanzas but they are cheaper.

Not to rub it in (well, maybe a little), but it's 80 and sunny in Phoenix right now!

Not mention you don't have to clean the salt and dirt off your car after a snow storm, lucky southerners.

Been there done that. I lived in NY all my life and am glad to be away from that nasty weather. My car has been in the garage clean as can be since Friday of last week.

yah i had to get out of about 1.2 feet of snow. i just reversed (to put the front wheels on dry ground) and gave it max acceleration. got out without even slipping. drove over the snow like nothing. but ive seen other people (with jeeps too) having trouble in the snow. the TL does perform well in nasty weather. i tested my 08 TL-S in heavy rain on an open road to see how much it would slip, and surprisingly i didnt even notice the slippery streets. you should be proud of your TL.

Yeah I would have done better if the plastic panels that hang really low weren't dragging the snow, at one point the tires weren't touching the car, I literally stepped out of the car, it was in drive the wheels were spinning but the car wasn't moving.

you are better of getting a snow mobile instead of attempting to drive the TL.

Nah the TL wasn't that bad, although it wouldn't let me go faster than 25mph through 2inch snow because I would feel some traction loss.

It usually doesn't snow that much in CT, anyway.

you can't really rate that your tires are bad when your driving in 10 inches of snow. I don't think any tires were made to drive in 10 inches of snow....except for those 30 inch tires you put on those lifted trucks

I can relate to the OP. On my last ski trip to Mont-Tremblant I found that 25 cm of fresh powder posed a significant problem in the condo car park until the management had cleared it out. Also had to exercise judgment in deciding when to attempt going up a hill. At the time I had Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S tyres on the TL, which were more than adequate here in the DC area for the amount of snow we get, but which are NOT an adequate substitute for snow tyres if you live in an area where the use of such is the norm.

On the sort of snow depicted below, however, the car does fine (this picture was taken shortly after I had attempted to turn a donut in the car park shown; whilst the car did not slide, Ms1995hoo was decidedly NOT amused and that was the end of the effort). All that crap on the side of the car is just gunk, BTW, and is not the reflection of the snow.

You're mean, it actually snowed again but it was just an inch and a half, I had no problems with that.

Seeing the snow that we got here in New England this week just gives me another reason why I want to move someone where it is warm all year round.

Notice the rusted lug nut.

Damn I hate doing that. It's worse to plow with an RJ front. I just noticed today I also have 1 rusted lug nut. WTF?

Mid-60s here in DC yesterday. Not quite as nice today, and it's getting cloudy (supposed to rain later today to the point where they've already issued a flood warning). This is just a weird area to live as far as weather goes....wouldn't be at all surprised if it's in the 20s for baseball Opening Night on March 30.
