NOT a carbon fiber roof but...

Just in case any of you CF enthusiasts and taillight modders wondered how 3M DI-NOC would look......

Can't tell you how it loox installed because this is only one step in a long process to complete revamp my tails.

nice! I was thinking of doing the same thing once I got my hands on a set [along with doing the headlights].
I like it.
My idea was to slightly tint all lenses though.

Thnx for the comments. I plan doing the same for the headlights too once I find a pair for cheap to work on. I know it's been said before but Di-NOC is extremely easy to use. Just keep working it over w/ a heat gun / blow dryer and it'll form to whatever you want it to. I like the raw look but I'm comtemplating hitting it up with some clear coat for a nice shine.

Try using tire shine on a spare piece to see how you like it. I do it to mine a it stays pretty shiney for a while.

how would that work? these will be inside of the tail light housing. you wont be able to reapply tire shine or wipe it off.

op - careful what clear coat you use. i read that some alter the appearance by making it darker. there is a site that compares the use of 3 different clear coats and recommends one of them specifically. I dont recall what kind though, sorry.

I meant it as for pieces he would be able to do it to on a regular basis. Not for the lights. And as for which clearcoat to use you should only use Valspar clearcoat as noted by carbonfibergear.com, they even show a vid on it and state not to do more then 3 light coats cause it make the material start to curl. They also suggested tire shine as well.

Man, that's why I mentioned it in my first post because I knew it was coming. Can't install it yet, folks. I actually did this a couple months ago and even though I wanted to come out and say "Look, I did it first. HA!!!", I didn't want to get everyone too hyped because like I said, this is only 1 step out of 6-7 steps being done to my lights. And this project is 1 of 5 I'm currently working on. But after I saw the bad case of CF Blue Balls that poorman gave you guys, I figured why not post these up since I have ACTUAL PHOTOS.

I can tell ya I'm either gonna smoke or frost the clear lense. The frosted piece is coming out because the indentions in it throw off the light output I'm looking for (did I mention I ripped out the LED board and installed my own setup?). I will keep you guys posted with progress pics.

Yes! Smoke the lens!
I'd love to see it [as I thought of doing that as well, just no time/lights].
I'm interested to see your other custom set-up for the lights! Sounds promising

Just talked to my wife and the original housing is still in the junk bin of stuff that I have YET to put out on the curb. I work out of town and won't have access to it until Thursday and Friday is our Anniversary trip to Atlanta up until Tuesday. Off next week so if I get away from the wife long enough (she harrasses and nags me during the process of my projects but then praises me on the outcome, go figure), I'll get an installed pic.

I already have a can of frosted glass spray on hand. What's some good smoke? Don't mention VHT Nightshades. We've never gotten along in the past.

Whenever I used Nightshades, I could never get a consistent spray. Always uneven. But that was like 7 years ago. Maybe my hands have gotten a little steadier.

I know, I know...I see you posted at 1 in the morning. I was already asleep. And I can't get on the site during the day-too busy at work. But better late than never. Since they're Type S tails, I am jealous!

No doubt this can be done on the Ss but these are 07-08 Base. For what I'm trying to accomplish, they have to be Base. Ss have no clear lense. They're all red.
