91k Miles, paid $10,700 for it. Very clean, 1 owner. Seems to have every possible feature - pretty pumped about it.

I'm someone who hasn't done much work on cars if at all, and has never modded anything.

But I'd like to start.

That's why I joined up here! I want to get as many miles out of this thing as possible, so there's no better time to learn.

The car has its 'fuel cap tightness' alert which means I might need to replace the Evap pump, and the steering is pretty tight at low speeds. Dealer said that the Power Steering Pump is pretty shot, and quoted me $652 for the repair.

Where do I begin?

Congrats and welcome. It looks like you got ur self a clean one. As for the power steering pump, you may just wanna get a used one and have a local shop install it to save urself some cash or you can try doing it urself. It's not to bad of a job..

welcome to forums, as for the PS pump DO NOT replace UNLESS its leaking, TL is know for have heavy steering wheel especially at low speed the pump was design to work less under 30 mph, this is why I see almost every TL carfax has "PS pump checked" service through dealer. You can have your PS flush with new fluid that will help it become a little lighter/smoother. I recommend you do 3x3 (drain and refill 3 quarts of Auto Transmission Fluid and drive for couple thousand miles before repeat the process for 3 times) after that change the AT pressure switches, I actually did 5 times before i change the pressure switches for smoother shifting. As far as the gas cap message you can buy the purge valve canister for $80 and it took about 10 mins of your time for install. I also like to remind you that if the previous owner didn't do 105k services (I highly doubt that being 91k miles) it can be costly the TB/WP can run you around $1400.

Yeah, the PS pump is definitely leaking, the mechanic told me about it during the inspection.

I'm OK for now with tighter steering (my last car didn't even have power steering), but I will replace it in a couple of months.
