new lower grills

I cut out the the horizontal/vertical bars with a dremel. Sanded the whole grill. Cut some mesh to the right size. Painted the grill with krylon black plastic spray paint and the mesh with a primer and black gloss. Attached the mesh with little zip ties to the grill and snapped it back in place. Working on the top grill now. Gonna do the same thing. Either the "floating A symbol" or complete mesh.

If you can, picture the top grill the same way with mesh and all black. Should I paint the lower plastic portion of the aspec lip black also?

I brightened the pics bc it was dark out when i took them

wowww, looks sickk. I've been thinking about putting the mesh on the lower grill, but just putting it over the horizontal/vertical bars, but this looks alottt cleaner. What paint did you use? Not clear on how you used zip ties to attach the mesh, explain?

i named the paint in first post. Krylon spray paint gloss black for plastic. no primer on the plastic. defeats the purpose of the plastic paint. krylon gloss black with primer for metal.

i used the smallest zip-ties i could find from home depot. i drilled holes in the grill just big enough for the zip-tie to fit through and very close to the edge of the grill. i put 4 zip-ties on the top and 3 on the bottom. you cant even see them unless you a few inches away.

When I saw the title of this thread, I wasn't sure what to expect, but that is SICK man! I may have to end up doing this to my lower grills on my WDP. I love the white/black contrast. Out of curiosity, do you have any pictures during the whole process?

I'm planning on painting my middle cross bar and grey shrouding on my grill sometime this month as well. You sir have good taste

what kind of paint are you planning on using for the cross bar and shrouding? I'm not a paint guy at all so I know nothing. Sorry for all the questions

thanks buddy. no progress pics sorry. any questions just pm me. if you cut out the plastic bars on the bottom grill, just make sure to sand the whole thing down so its smooth and no bumps.

im gonna mesh the whole top grill, paint the grey shrouding on the top grill and the piece thats on the hood gloss black. should look real good on a white wdp

thanks!! although looks are important to me, im still trying to get as much air in there as possible for the intercooler.

forgot to mention. i cut out the plastic that thats behind the lower grills with the dremel. i left about 1/2 inch of plastic all the way around the inside of the bumper by the grill so the grill can still snap into place

WELL DONE!! Very clean. And yes, it is important to cut away the plastic grid before adding the new grill (good choice). Also glad to see you did not use the "gutter guard" mesh (the stuff you used is much better --just my personal opinion )

I did mine last month but stayed with the chrome look but I love the black & white theme on yours (another good choice by you). Can wait to see the top grill too. With your B&W theme, you have some options to consider with the top grill.

You asked if you should I paint the lower plastic portion of the aspec lip black also? I would say yes. I think it will blend the deep gloss of the grill with the lip.

Again, well done!

Here's how mine turned out.

That's a tough call. My first thought was go with the clear. But I'm thinking the others will work better as long as the black does not become "overkill" on the front.

Where exactly did you get the mesh from?

I been wanting to do somethign like this to my 07 to somewhat match the center grill. I have tried messing around with the type-s grills but it doesnt work. THis will be perfect.
