My Grill Mod...

Got bored with my stock grill so I decided to cut it up. Let me know what you think...good or bad.

This is the only pic I took during the whole project.

And this is the finished product..

Thanks to fellow Aziners dave_ramkumar and mmade22 for their advice

Looks good and I bet you spent less than the eBay/Hong Kong drop-in grill.

How is the mesh held in place, and is there any kind of bar or plate at the top (where the engine cover would pin to)? Can you get to the hood release?

I like it yet I kind of don't.
I think the Di-Noc'd trim doesn't flow. Looks like you did good work though.

Always loved the DIY grille versus the eBay one.

Looks good man. Great job. Take the Di-Noc off it will look better and give the grill a nice contrast between the black part of it and hood/bumper

I dunno why but it looks really bulky now and outta place... Maybe if you painted the trim instead of DiNocing it I would like it better. But props to your efforts

Thanks man. The mesh is held in place by 2 little prongs that stick out of the plastic V on the botton and the plastic shroud on top is holding it in place on the top. Plus I left the grill extra long so it touches both sides behind the bumper.

I thought the opposite. I didn't think the silver trim didn't flow with the rest of the car.

Well I kinda messed up the silver V so I had to cover it up in vinyl.

Thanks. I try to keep a simple set up. I'm thinking about adding a badge in there somewhere but I'm still not sure yet.

I did it in 2 separate weekends. A lot of time was spent sitting around waiting for the fiberglass, primer, and coats of paint to dry.

LasVegasTL,

I am wanting to do mine soon, the correct way. I will be using fiberglass to fill-in those two voids where the center-bar was cut away.

What did you use to provide support where the void is... before you applied the fiberglass? Like shown in pic below.

You're right. At this point the original trim color may clash.
I think it'd look fantastic if you'd color match the trim pieces

I used a couple of mixing boards. Bondo makes them also. I just cut out two small pieces and put them behind the holes and glued them using plastic weld.

Good job on the custom grill but that di-noc seems to clash a bit. Maybe replace the di-noc with black glossy vinyl?

Video it?! Yikes that would be a long video. There is a really well-written How-To posted about this, with tons of pictures. It doesn't look difficult but definitely time consuming. A lot of waiting for drying time.

Thanks. Thought about it but I haven't figured out a way yet to make it look clean.

I'm still considering doing something with those corner lights. My main concern is to keep the car legal so cops don't bother me.

I might add some sort of emblem or badge to the grill. Still thinking about it.

I'd try it with the emblem floating in the center, like you said you were gonna try. But you've gotten all the hard work done, now its just tweaking. Nice job!
