Must Say Goodby to my Type S
I sold my prized 2008 Type S ASPEC 2 weeks ago. After 4 1/2 years she still only had 8,189 miles on the OD. I will miss this great car. The new owner, who flew from CA to MA to purchase it and drive it back to CA, got a perfect Type S FOR 18 hours, BEFORE SHE WRECKED IT. I was sick.
However the good news for me is that I got $29,500 for the car, which is 93% of what I paid for the car new (less taxes and my mods). In turn, I purchased my new to me Z4, for the sale price of the Type S-$29,500 + $3,300 a near perfect, fully optioned, 1 owner, fully BMW serviced, full bumper to bumper BMW warrantied, 2009 BMW Z4, 35i, Hard Top Convertible with 26K on the clock. This car has the N54 motor which is a 300HP Twin Turbo, 300 # of Torque mated to the M series 7 speed double clutch Trans. This car is loaded with all but 1 BMW factory option. The original owner paid new- $68,940 just 3 1/2 year ago. This deal was WAY TOO GREAT to pass up. This Z4 is amazingly fast, handles like a go kart and is totally unbelievable. The mods already started- Red Brake calipers, LED Interior, Blacked out reflector and side Markers, dash kit, CF Wrapped engine compartment, Real CF door sills, Blacked out grill, De-badged, Aluminum Pedal set, Maxed out detailing and more to come. I will as miss the Acura BUT I drool just thinking about driving the Z.

Nice cars! Sorry to hear the new owner wrecked it, but that's not your problem. How did you find out she wrecked it? If someone called me to tell me they wrecked a car they just bought from me, I guess I would say I was sorry they had an accident, but that's about it.

You can't make this stuff up. The story of how I knew the buyer had an accident- The car was sold on line with no meeting except only on the day the car was sold. When the lady and her husband from CA, arrived at my house, again for the 1st time to purchase the car, low and behold when they got out of there rental car, to my amazement were in there early 70's. Not exactly your average Type S ASPEC buyer. Then I found out that they flew here to MA with no insurance and no plates for the S, BUT with CASH in hand. MA state law requires me to remove my plates and transfer them or return them to the DMV before I can remove the insurance coverage off the car. Then when I opened the garage and the people saw the S for ths 1st time in person, they said I we'll take it. Lets do the deal. They didn't even open the doors, look inside, start it, drive it, NOTHING. I forced them to look at it, but still NEVER drove it. Long story short, my last words to them as I took off my plates and as they were driving out of the driveway with no plates or insurance were "you will get pulled over in Mass". 18 hours later, still in MA which only takes 2.5 hours to the RI border, they called me and asked me to loan them my plates. I states for the above reason I could not. While on the phone with them, The car gets hit while I am on the phone with as they were sitting along the side of the road. The screaming ensued ect and the phone went dead. She called me back hours later and expalined the car was side swiped and $1,000's of dollars of damage later. They got the insurance and were going to have it fixed while still in MA. I never head back from them.

Geez, all the insurance stuff can be handled on the phone these days. I can't believe how dumb some people are. I would never consider driving a car with no insurance coverage.

Congratulations on the Z4. Sounds like you got a good deal.
Of all places not to drive with insurance. Massachusetts drivers are the worst.

for the type s, what does the aspec package consist of from dealer? Aside from the obvious lip kit and rims, does it include the aspec suspension, badge, steering wheel, and upgraded rear brake pads?

They were obviously unprepared. I hope they weren't planning to drive cross country without insurance or plates

Wow crazy story. Even though you got your money for the car I would be so upset that my pride and joy that was probably the most immaculate and low mileage Type S in the country just got wrecked. Man that's gotta suck for those people to go about a transaction totally unprepared then low and behold it gets smashed with no insurance. Fortunately like you said its not your problem, you did everything you could. How those people didn't setup insurance is beyond. When I bought my 08 Type S last month I setup insurance online took all but 5 minutes and I was done.
Congrats on the new car, thats a big change to go to a tiny 2 seater.

A-spec kit from dealer also include sport pads for front and back. Why people have to be so cheap? you can buy a month of insurance worth of $80 and not getting worry if involve in an accident, I hate to see a nice TL-S go to waste smh..

My ASPEC Kit consisted of the F and Rear Bumper lips/kits and the 2 peice side skirts.
I miss the the Type S. The Z is a complete departure from the BIG 4 door, 4 seater compared to the 2 door small Z sports car. I never dreamed of selling the S espicially being the extrea low mileage beauty it was. I got the Bimmer bug by taking 25 customers to the BMW Performance School in Greenville, SC. I hired the school for 4 key events for each customer-
1. 5 hot track racing laps with each of the following Bimmers- 750iL- dog, 650i- nice luxury cruiser, X5- M Series- 550HP, WOW for a giant SUV, X3 standard-nothing special and the Z4 35i, my new car- unbeleivable.
2. 7 timed auto cross laps in loaded M3 series. Fantastic event- finished 2nd.
3. Drift Racing Elimination in a 2 on 2 head to head race in the new 1 series. I won the event. I kept advancing with win after win and ended up getting appx 50 laps.
4. Hot Laps in a BMW5 Series Race Car-for 3 laps around the track. Fantastic.
Bottom line, The S and the Z4 are totally different cars. If I could have afforded to keep both, it woulod have been a no brainer, but finances rule.
The Z4 is the best of both worlds- Hard top/ Convertible in one. No soft top to deal with. It has go cart handling, incredible excelleration, big top speed, around 160 MPH, lightening fast and total fun DCT Double Clutch Trans shifting and an all around total driving experience in each drive. As well there are very few of them on the road, as it is a very low volume car. I never got this rush from the S, but still love it. There you have it.

I hear what your saying im sure that little Z is a blast to drive. I had a 2 seater Z as well, but not a BMW :-) I will say my C6 Z06 with 505hp and only weighing 3,000lbs is the first car I have ever owned that blew my mind every time I layed into the gas pedal. Most cars you eventually get used to the acceleration, but not me in that car. I almost pissed my pants everytime I floored that thing hahaha
Money wise its just not smart right now, but I would love to just use my Type S as the daily driver and eventually get another summer toy again.
BTW, any word on the people that bought your Type S? Would love to hear more about the situation.

No shit, especially a car that you just paid nearly 30K cash for! I called my insurance agent the morning I went to buy my car and he gave me 72hr temp insurance to get it home. Took a total of 10 min to drive home insured.
