Honestly Anil, I never thought about doing that. I like the all stainless look of this exhaust when looking at it from behind the car. Although, it probably wouldn't look that bad with black mufflers and nice shiny tips.

Murder out all things, Anil!

The little Invidia plaque is too nice to cover up. That's my favorite thing about that exhaust.

Come to think of it, the previous guy had it painted black and I stripped it off to see the plaque!

I'm a huge fan of painting the mufflers black.

It puts emphasis on the exhaust tip.

Non-black mufflers have always been an "eyesore" to me

yeah...am not sure how it looks on a silver car, maybe you can try to photoshop something to see how it will look before actually pulling the trigger? or try plastic dip first and peel it off just thinking out loud...

for me, it was worth it since I like the look AND not sure what material the XLR8 exhaust is made off, so I would rather coat it and protect it than have it rust away due to winter elements...

Yeah Chip. Although you've already stated you're not interested in doing it. Give it some thought or maybe try these other approaches for the reasons I've stated and restated. How could you possibly know what you like without someone else telling you for you. WTF...

On a stock muffler, I agree...especially if it's chipping or not perfect...but not on an aftermarket exhaust. To each their own, I guess.

LOL, you guys are too funny.

Thanh, those pictures look amazing!

Well little update I guess. I decided to go with a new exhaust, the Greddy Spectrum Elite. I liked the Invidia Q300 a lot and tried to quiet it down with a different resonator, but I still wanted to change it up a bit. This exhaust will be a little more subtle in the sound department and looks very similar to the Q300. Originally I told J about the deal when I saw it on the S2Ki forums, but the seller preferred to do a local sale, so I decided to jump on it. I made the 4 hour round trip to pick it up yesterday after I got done work at 7pm.

Before Pics (seller took these)

Anil, I will say this. While I was painting the exhaust, I did think about painting the rest of the muffler black and just leaving the tips polished, but I just can't do it. I really like the look of the polished mufflers when standing behind the car. As J said, maybe if it was the factory exhaust I'd probably have an easier time doing it, but when you pay good money for an aftermarket one, it makes it a harder pill to swallow.

Dew it man! You'll be glad that you did. It's really not much work and the shine afterwards is fantastic! If you're ever in the area again let me know, we can surely meet up again.

You just pulled a Jeremy you dirty SOB.

Congrats, that thing is gorgeous. Too bad he didn't wanna ship!
I do hope you're happy with it, man!

We know the gains are minimal for an exhaust. So the big things we pay that big money for are a different look and the sound. Painting it black kinda kills one of those.

Is that the flameproof paint that cures once it gets hot? Kinda a poor man's powdercoat. That's what I did the header in!

Thanks Steven!

Lol, yeah J, I stole a move out of your playbook.

Thanks man, I hope I love the sound of it too. Yes, I used the VHT Flame Proof stuff to paint the exhaust. I think it came out pretty nice and only used one coat. I wish I could have kept it shiny and silver, but there were a lot of rust spots so I wanted to protect it from rusting further. I know it's under the car and nobody would really see it anyway, but figured I would dress it up a bit. At least the front of the muffler and tips are still polished.

I think it looks great, man! Up North, with the salt and snow, I can understand why you'd want to protect it. Good call!

So I got the exhaust installed today and felt the need to snap some pics. Overall I like the sound of the exhaust a lot! I think it sounds much nicer than the Q300 did, but I think I kind of took a step back in the decibel department as the exhaust is a tad louder Q300. I tried taking a video on my way back from the exhaust shop, but I had the wind screen down so all I really got was wind noise during the video. Anyway, onto the pics!

Fitment and muffler placement actually looks more perfect than the Q300 also. The left muffler was always a little crooked, but there was no way to fix it. This one is very nice, Chip, congrats. So you're not feeling like it's about to vibrate or resonate or something now, like you were before?

Thanks J, and I agree, the fitment on this is so much better right out of the box for sure. The right tip on the Q300 actually sat out a little further than the left from when I had to have the one pipe extended so it didn't hit under my passenger seat.

No sir, even with the exhaust being a little louder, I don't hear or feel like it's going to make that noise that the Q300 was potentially making.

I'd love to see some gifs of a fast acceleration from a stop! Maybe some FHRIP gifs

You upped saturation on some of these, or used a CPL? The sun off the lips looks purplish!

Great shots, as always, my friend...gorgeous ride.
