Loooong time ef/da owner jumping into a '08 CBP TL-S!
first things first, this site is awesome. Ive been trolling around (site is freaking endless), but Im learning a lot about a car I really knew nothing about prior to purchase other than I loved the looks, lol. So thanks AZ!
a bit about me. have been dicking with 88-91 civics since 1992 and starting autoxing in 97 with a DB1. have always liked the underdog cars. caught a lot of shit for fixing up a sedan in the late 90's when coupes were the rage, but have always been a fan of sedans. once they got popular I got heavy into the awd wagons and built the first (that Im aware of) awd gsr civic wagon in 03-04. wife and I raced the wheels off of it for a few seasons and I sold it in 09 after the wife and I won our local SM/SML classes. we miss it, but got other wagons we tear up now.
current cars we have.
1989 Si hatch (pix/info in garage if interested).
1991 Si hatch (will be up for sale soon )
1991 rt4wd (work in progress, shooting for 300 otg)
1989 rt4wd, our rallyx car...obviously, lol (more info in my garage).
now, onto my new passion. our 08 cbp tl-s!
this car pulled up at a rallyx about a year ago and parked right next to my dirtyass wagon. I told the girl as she got out that I loved her car. She told me thanks and said it was the best car shes ever owned. Later that morning I see her with one of the guys I rally with headed back to car. I stop them and give more props on how much I love the car and ask if they ever decide to sell that I would a chance to pick it up. They looked at each other and laughed. they had decided to sell it 2 days prior. I asked why and they said thier family had just outgrown the car and they needed a suv. I asked when they planned to do so and they said taxtime. Sure enough once Feb hit, the guy called and asked if I wanted to take it for a test drive. Silly question. Wife and I drove it, loved it, bought it.
this couple bought car brand new and got the extended warranty and an interior warranty (??? this was a new thing to me). car has had all scheduled maintaninence and all service records were given to me upon sale. I got the extended warranty transferred over to me (for another 50k) and I get the interior warranty as soon as the claim they made to fix tear in back seat (baby seat messed it up) is repaired. Car has 50k on odometer and has had clearbra over the entire frontend since purchase. its a at, but I did this for a reason. if it was a 6sp, it would turn into another race car, and I want a car that isnt for once.
theres lots I want to do to car and have a ton of questions, but ill do that gradually throughout the site instead. I do have one question though. Where is the offficial spot for build threads? Id like to keep a good log of what I do over the years. I kept my db1 for 12 years and didnt have a thread for it and regret it. dont wanna make the same mistake twice. anyway, ive rambled long enough. thanks for reading.

welcome to the site. You can post progress thread here (I believe you already did). Question, are you willing to make this Type S AWD too? Nice TL-S lol.

If I still had access to a full shop (worked at a speed shop for 6 years), I would definalty make a awd 3rd gen happen, but no shop = no more fabbing. i do not have the tooling to pull a conversion like that off now. im limited to bolt on crap these days.
thank you sir!
Thanks for the welcomes everyone!
so my first mod was to remove the emblems. Hate emblems, wish there wasnt holes behind the A, but whatcha gonna do?
plan of getting some colormatched paint canned up to colormatch the A emblem. try and hide what I cant remove.
next was adding a little color up front. Removed old clear clearbra from foglights and added yellow clearbra with the help from one of the writeups on here. thanks again AZ
Before:
After:
having had only 20 year old cars forever. Im still amazed how precise the beams in current car lighting systems. definatly a nice change.

CBP Type S' are definitely nice to have, but the Honda blood inside my veins is pumpin pretty damn hard over those EF hatches. I really need to find a decently clean one and build it. such a beautiful shape to them.
oh, and you got shitboxes!!! you my friend are and OG Honda P.I.M.P!!!

thanks so much
Thanks Elmer! appreciate the comps! hopefully someday mine will be in the same league as yours and some of the other badass rides around here.
Thanks, and yes. i was very active on g2ic for years. Still have a DA hood that everyone signed at the 2002 wcm. I still poke my head in there every one and a while and say hi to the og's.
a 2-3" drop and some spacers. followed by a rear sway when I find the right one.
Really want cleared head & taillights, but dont know if I wanna tackle that just yet.
Dude, big thanks on the hatchy comps. those cars are a blast and still lay smackdown on some real heavy hitters in the cornering dept. Finding a clean one these days is damn near impossible. the teal one has the mintest interior ive ever had. unripped bolster on drivers seat and all foam is intact. still super comfy. Its hurts me to even mention its going up for sale.
and Im not sure what shitboxs are, I assume the wagons?? A lot of people refer to all my cars with that term, especially the ones with twice the footprint and twice the hp that lose to me and the wife, lol.
Definatly different, but gaining trust in the corners daily. pleasently suprised at how well this big car handles.

the shitbox comment was in NO means a negative one. it's just a term that me and my buds came up to call the Wagovans. personally I think they're one of the sickest designs Honda ever did. so ugly, but when done well can be sooo damn sick. Shitbox FTMFW!!!

Lol, thanks. the mud graphics change from event to event depending on how much rain we get.
As much as I would looooove to do this, the desire to commit to projects of that size has dwindled to nill. Im old, and even though its not the age (its the miles on the chassis), Im starting to feel it I fear trading in my snowboard and mt bike for golf clubs and a flyrod...but the time is coming.
Ok, cool, lol. Thats what i was assuming, and thanks People made fun of me when I first got one, but once it had a gsr motor and a crv tranny/dl & diff, people stopped poking fun. best compliment was at a local PCA meeting (heard from a fellow racer that owns a Porcshe), "if you're going to autox with the local SCCA chapter, be prepared to lose to cars youd never expect to lose too." "what kinda cars are you talking about?" "well for starters, I got my ass handed to me by a chick in a civic stationwagon." Warms the heart
Only family Id be in. had a Honda in the garage since 1992. ive strayed away with a toyota pickup (1995 to present), but other than that. we are Honda heads through and through.
no need for another thread, I have no issues with this being my little spot on AZ.
really appreciate the warm welcomes and compliments. thanks everybody!! Ill contribute where I can, but theres a lot of smart cookies in this place. Will be nice, most the EF forums are filled with clicky, know it all, smartass's.

Thank you for all the compliments! Think Im worthy to post in the slammed thread yet? Or do i need merlot? lol...
Thier tein advances and thier definatly NOT what I thought I would be getting. honestly, Im pretty unhappy with the purchase. dont get me wrong, its a quailty setup, built well, fit great, but they are not as advertised. If I had known they would be what they are, I would have got a gc/yellow setup instead. the hunt for a different setup is (back) on
^^^
^^^ Just so everyone knows, I did NOT take these pix. A good friend of mine did. i do not have the skills to take snaps (or edit) like this, lol. I very much appreciate the compliments on his pix though and will most definatly be passing them along to him when he gets back from Atlanta.
thanks man, but mods after suspension will be pretty tame. I will get some rear camberkits, and after that id like to find a set of wheels, but the rest of the mods will more than likley be little interior/exterior crap, lol. the unit I need to convert navi to be able to play dvd's, some lighting mods, bulbs, etc. need to keep this car user friendly.

Ya for sure. one of the main draws for me to a full bodied coilover is the shortened shock body. it just makes sense cause it helps keep the car from riding on the bump stops at a lower ride height. These are advertised as shorter than the SS version. I have installed at least 20 different sets of SS teins from 02-07 on many different chassis (Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mitsubishi, etc). every single one of those setups I compared the old struts vs the new struts. 100% of the time the SS shock body was at the very least an inch shorter, sometimes as much as 3". these advances were no more than a 1/2" shorter than the stock struts. Now this is no big deal if you only want a moderate drop in the 1.5-2" range. but they advertise these as being able to handle a 2.9f/2.7r drop. Sure it will go that low, but youll be riding completly on the bumpstop and thats what gives lowered cars the "bouncy" ride.
These are also not a full bodied coilover. the shock body is not threaded. these have a threaded sleeve that slides over a regular style strut and rests on a seat much like a koni yellow setup. Like I said, they are nice pieces and these peices fit together extremely well, but its still just a coilover sleeve on a strut setup. theres no way to keep the spring preloaded and change ride height.
I have to turn the dampning all the way up to 25+ to keep the front end planted at the height its at now. That leaves me no room for a "softer" ride. Part of the reason I wanted these is cause I knew that the SS was able to go very soft and still ride great. Being their replacement I assumed these would be an excellent alternative. Sadly, I was incorrect.
