Let me know what you think of this Subbox I made for my 2005 TL
I also did a little paint work under the hood.

I painted all the plastic pieces that line the underside of the hood. An they are 2 8" Kicker comp VR subs. I may upgrade the box to have 2 10's.

The factory sub is disconnected, I am using a Audiobahn 5.1 amp with all the speakers in the car replaced, except the dash tweeters. I have an Infinity 3 1/2" center, Infinity 6 1/2" in the door and Polk MOMO 6 3/4" Mid bas drivers in the rear deck. There is no rattle from the box and it sounds awesome. For me the factory was not loud enough, it was super clean, just not loud enough. I wanted a little more, but didn't want to just throw a box in the trunk. With previous fiberglass knowledge, from my previous show car, I set out to build this box. The amp itself is mounted in the tire well, with the spare tire gone. I have retained all the Radio controls for the Sub and Center, and boosted the volume quite a bit.

I want one of those. I'll pay you. I want to do that with my 10" Rockford sub. How did you calculate the internal volume to match the sub?? Since the output from the head unit is so low did you have to use a line level booster such as the audiocontrol matrix? How did you connnect your amp to the head unit?

I used Line Level converters. This allowed me to use the output from the factory amp to get the input I needed into the new amp. As for the volume, you use the following equation.
hieght x width x depth/1728=internal volume
given that the box is not square, this is a rough estimate, but enough to put you on the right track.

I mean under the kick panel. Does it (the kick panel) come off like most other panels, with just a pull? I am going to replace my amp. So if you can tell me the size of the old one. And if there is room under the panel, like how much......
It would be a big help. Thanks....

Can you post a DIY on how to make an enclosure like yours? Or, can you point us to some links that will give us some ideas on how to make one? I want to make one for a JL Audio W6 10" sub.
What exactly is the internal volume formula? Any references to better understand enclosures, volume, component matching would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Here you go, if you've worked with fiberglass before then this will all make sense, if not, you're in for some real fun! Funny thing is I've worked with it quite a bit on my boats and I have all the tools and glass and stuff to do this project, but it's a lot of work / tons of time to do it....and I've never tried it for a speaker box.....hmm....maybe this summer..

Nice job man! My friend is attempting to fiberglass for the first time for his Mazda 6s.... he gets very frustrated at times. It's not going so well so far.

Painting under the hood?? is that wise?
The plastic alone will eventually dry out and get brittle from the range of temperature.
Wouldnt the paint dry out the plastic even quicker?
I do like the idea, real clean looking

One on the right for me
I like the looks of the box. I remember when Jerky did this, I seriously thought about doing it but am worried about fitting two golf bags in my trunk.

I've been looking at this site for a while, i don't' have any pics yet..... and this is my first post. But last Sunday I got the itch to put some better sound in my new TL..... I went to best buy and after weighing my options....decided to have them install and wire everything for me for a mere $80. Considering they disconnected my factory sub, attached a hi-lo converter, ran power and ground, and hooked the remote turn on to the factory amps turn on. Now I have two 12's running at 2ohms, and i can control all of it through my navi console's sub control! I love everything about this car!!
