klene259-'05 NBP Progress Thread

Hey everyone picked up a 2005 NBP TL 6MT 3 weeks ago and have been reading a bunch of threads around the forum and I'm amazed about the amount of information you have available whether its hiding in random threads or in the 3G garage. So before I even start Great Work!!

I'm coming from a 2002 Acura RSX-S (prior to this was a 97 integra long story...)

I loved it but unfortunately Cold Air Intake plus flooded Highway = Hydrolocked and insurance totaled it. This lead me to search for a new car which lead me here. So with out further adieu:

The day I bought her:

The shift knob had to go...

Cleaned up some

Work Begins

Replaced an engine mount:

Picked up a SS and sum bushings (no pictures of the bushings)
-Could no get the slave cylinder apart to remove the check valve

Installed a GROM unit with integrated bluetooth:

picked up some reverse lights from iJDMtoy-
Before:

After:

and last but not least let my baby brother plastidip the center console trim pieces since the texture was scratched up... I think they came out good!

I also got rid of that shift knob... It's a skunk2 that I transferred from my totaled RSX

Well that's it!! Sorry for the long post just haven't had a chance to write this as I was doing it since I'm trying to get the car ready for a long road trip!!

I hope I posted everything correctly while putting this together...

Welcome

Looks like you have a good start, especially with the 6MT! Congrats on the purchase, and don't drive this one through any deep puddles! Have Fun on the road trip.

Thanks and I agree!!

May pick up some window visors to so I can crack the windows to keep the temp down in the car. There's 3 good cracks on the passenger side dash
but I'd like to keep it from getting worse.

Ordered some 303 protectant yesterday

Finally back to Florida and have started work on the TL again. My awesome GF picked up a trunk lip spoiler and roof spoiler for my birthday and Christmas. Trunk lip installed (no pictures yet cars to dirty ) My baby brothers picked me up LED lights and resistors for the stock fog lights!

from what I've read in other threads I think these are usually installed with the DRL harness to provide them with their full power requirements. So I'm experimenting a little. Have them installed like this for now, harness gets here this week at which point I will shoot some comparison shots. Next up will be a DRL module so I can actually use them as DRLs since the 05 doesn't have this stock.

I'm hoping to get her cleaned up this weekend and install the roof spoiler and take a couple pics of the rear

Also waiting to receive some goodies from another acurazine member for the next mod on the list followed by the impending 105,000 mile service!

I like the taste you have there.
Second I saw the box the leds came with... I was like, wait.. haha
Excited to see comparison shots with the harness

For DRL module, why don't you do the independent switch mod for upper fogs?

Makin me Steven

That is actually another option I was looking at but at some point I think I want to install the inspire fogs. Did you wire both your upper and lower fogs on your car to the same switch or did you run them to independent switches?

So what.. you could use the harness that comes with the Inspire and add a switch to the empty spot besides the VSA button.

I didn't use the harness. Because I wanted them to turn on as a parking bulb (unlock, lock button).

So I tapped the inspires to the parking bulb, that's how it is right now.

Upper fogs? Still stock, just did the independent switch to them.
Both fogs have leds in them, the one you just bought.

I could use a halogen bulb or HID for my upper fogs but not inspire. Fuse can't take it since I tapped them to parking light

Looking good! Get those springs on!

I like the idea of Inspires, I feel like fogs really complete the front look of the car.
Not sure if I like the idea of amber upper fogs with Inspires on at the same time though, kinda hard for me to picture it.

Thanks again man! Ya, don't know if I will keep them amber in the future once I get around to buying inspires but for now I think its a look since i don't have them. Plus I think I may want to go aspec before jumping for the inspire fogs though.

So driving home from the hospital the other day, I got to a stop light and the clutch went straight to the floor. After pushing the car to the side of the road further investigation showed a leaking slave cylinder was the culprit. I was able to do some sub par bleeding at a gas station to give me enough pedal pressure to drive home. So today I picked up a new slave cylinder and installed it!! Unfortunately I seem to fail at taking these apart so no check valve delete today...

My ijdmtoy harness came in as well so I installed that and took a couple pictures.

I don't think it is that much brighter if at all. That may be due to the color my LED fogs but I'll let you guys decided

One negative to the kit is the inline resistors for this kit came like this...

I ended up removing the black tubing in order to align these like the stand alone resistors because I was worried about the heat of the resistors burning through the wires if I left them as is

What exactly did you do? Isn't the harness getting the power from the battery?
What are the resistors for?

First 2 shots. Left one looks brighter
Distance show, right one looks brighter
I am confused

I think the picture difference is because in the the last pic I was closer to the right side of the car, I had to keep playing with an angle to try and keep the headlights from overexposing the picture.

As far as the harness it comes with inline resistors that from what I understand cause the car not trigger the dash light for a burnt out bulb.

The ijdmtoy kit now looks alot like the vleds kit with the resistors wired into the battery harness

I've never seen that harness before... with factory plug

Yup it does look like you are directing the camera to the right one.
Sooo it actually did made a difference huh
Might give better results in HIDs I think...

Lots of work on the car last weekend.

Aisin Timing Belt kit installed! H tech Springs installed! Rear window lip spoiler installed!

Gonna try and take some pictures later if I have time...

Couple of things I ran into while installing the timing belt

So the sleeves on these pulleys were different sizes... This had me worried. Being as the original looked to be in great shape I ended up re-installing it with a new auto tensioner piston.
(If I'm being honest the timing belt I took off was in great shape too even though the serpentine belt had signs of wear. Made me wonder if the belt had been changed previous even though there wasn't a service record for it...)
My question is has anyone else run into this and if so what did you end up doing??

The other issue I had was the crank bolt. I was very happy to have all the right tools including the honda lock out tool for the crank shaft. In the end it didn't matter. Two impact extensions, a can of PB blaster and a 3ft breaker bar later I finally gave up and used a motor bump to break the bolt loose... Lesson learned

You have to move the inner-most sleeve from the old tensioner arm to the new one. It just slides out by hand.

Just for you Steve, Also installed the trunk lip a couple of weeks ago!

As far as the update here are a few pictures I took last night, also forgot to mention early that I installed a couple LED boards.

The new H Tech springs ride great, it doesn't look dropped at all in the pictures but from putting the car up on the jack stands to bringing it down I could see and measure the difference. Really tempted to start shopping for a sway bar next!!

Anyone have any thoughts about CT vs Progress vs H&R vs Type S??

Ran into a problem today. Both my front driver side parking light and side marker are not coming on. The driver side blinker is working (to my knowledge the parking light and blinker are the same bulb) and all the other parking lights are working.

Does any one know a fix for this? Is it possible that both burnt out at once?

I went through a bunch a fuses today and couldn't find any that were burnt out but if someone can recommend the exact fuse I should check that would be greatly appreciated as well.

PLasti dipped the front grill this weekend. Used some of the glossifier to try and get it closer to the cars color. Its not quite to the level of the gloss vinyl or NBP paint match but its close and I think a little more glossifier or some pearl mixed in next time might get it there.

Mid project:

Finished!!

Comparison shot:

In between coats I installed door sill vinyl inlays from Bruce! I think it looks great!

As always comments welcome!
