Introduction/slow build thread
Hello all. My name is Ryan and I just bought a 2008 Acura Tl Type S with 72,803 miles on July 2nd. Car is NHBP with the black and "silver" interior, BUT it is an auto (ik ik, shame shame, the 6 spd that was in my area sold before i got to it).
Little background info. This is not my first rodeo with an Acura. My first car was my moms WDP 2005 Acura Rl with 184k miles before i traded it in for a karusel white 10 Genesis coupe. Only reason I have the TL Type S is because my Genesis was totaled out. Was a very depressing day, but its in the past now so i have to move on.
The RL was a great car luxurious and a GREAT car for my first car. Was really grateful that my mom let me have it and drive it for a year. (excuse the plasti dip overload on it, now that i look back i hate it lol. this was back when i first discovered plasti dip, pls forgive me for the dip overload.. haha. i actually hate dip now).

This is the Genesis Coupe (3.8gt Auto. had the ZF 6hp19 phenomenal auto tranny. the 6 spd manuals have major issues. ie.3 and 4th grind, sychros failing) i traded the RL for back in aug of 2013. Stock as a bone with 28800 miles.

The Genesis was my first car getting into the cars more as in actually working on it, putting all my parts on. I had a Stillen catback with test pipes and a r2c sri for performance. Exterior i had a polyurethane front lip, side skirt extentions, rear diffuser and roof spoiler. Suspension i was lowered on ark gt-f springs. Wheels were Ace Alloy Convex 19x8.5 +20 19x10 +22

Onto the current ride.. Ive always wanted a tl-s and i actually wanted to trade the rl for a tl-s, but couldnt at the time. Heres my 08 Acura Tl Type S that is currently sitting at 74150ish miles. enjoying every bit of it. The more i drive it, the more i love it.

Got the car tinted. Llumar 15% ceramic film (first time having ceramic film and let me tell ya it is AWSOME)

I've been a long time lurker. Been following the big tl enthusiast such as Rockstar, quanaman, cltothetl, etc. This is probably the best forum to be on and i am grateful i have a tl-s that is pretty clean. cant wait to start making it my own!

Your Type S looks great. Id go with HFPC over the PCD

PCD can be very raspy and smelly and will leave a coating your exhaust tips... HFPC still have a cell count but its much lower than what a OEM cell count would be. I think the difference in power between the two setups is like 3-5hp. The HFPC are more expensive

I have a question. I plan on buying the Tein street advance coil-overs, but want to clarify on a few topics/questions. Trying to budget in whats needed. From Heeltoes article regarding camber kits, from my understanding of it is we dont need them? as long as we have a good alignment and get the toe within factory spec?
Another thing i'd like to touch on are the bushing.. Is it a hit or miss with the bushing going bad? I've read up on it and from my understand its like the axles. Hit or miss.

Yeah, i'm not currently running any camber kits - I do have the skunk 2 UCA's that I intend to put up front, but, just keep the Toe at Zero and you'll be fine on stock components, unless you're planning to lay frame in which you will need aftermarket units to adjust the camber. i'm dropped 24" ground to fender lip in front, and 24.5" in the rear, just natural camber, my alignment was done and I was like -1.6F, -2.4R toe set to zero

I'm running Tein SA's and ended up getting the SPC rear camber kit. It's perfectly fine to run natural camber but I brought mine in a little and zeroed out the toe.
Are you referring to the Ingalls bushings issues? When I was in the market, those articles steered me away and is why I went with the SPC kit.

Hey Ryan - that SPC rear kit only controls camber thought right? I might have to get the rear kit sooner than later...so trying to factor that in down the road, my last alignment they couldn't adjust the toe on the driver rear because the bolt was seized, so i'll have to get the toe arms too

I hear ya, however, i think it's look solid clean, dirty, wet...it rocks! Although, I'm thinking to paint mine this fall (after I budget it out)
Tein's are good - so are BC/Megan's and ISC. just a suggestion - both of the BC/Megan and ISC come fully assembled - simply plug and play, whereas I think the Tein you have to assemble. If you stick with the Tein, I would suggest buying new top hats that way you can pull out the old suspension in one piece.

It's more the lower ball joint that will cause issues than the upper. But, i've got about 165k on mine and as far as I know mine are original ball joints. If you're just looking to eliminate wheel gap, you won't have excess stress added onto your ball joints/axles so you should be okay, but, good rule, whenever you do basic maintenance, always give them a look and check for excess play. broken ball joints/axle are easy to avoid with the consistent maintenance.

Hello guys! A small update. Got oem window visors and just got a spot repainted so that is a reason the car is filthy.
Ps, ignore the crappy camera. My phone has a crack on the lens sooo till i get a new phone these will do or i just need to invest in an actual camera haha. thanks for looking!

Keep up with the progress! Those visors look good, debating on picking some up. As for coilovers if youre still deciding tein does in fact make a few different options, I went with the street flex cause they come with top hats ready to go

Small update. My plans changed and decided to do exhaust first. Went with the Atlp J-pipe, 3rd cat delete, and Xlr8 non res quad. just got it installed today so hopefully itll open up some more. so far im loving it. not too loud and not too quite. Thanks for looking!

Hey everyone! Back with an update. Just ordered the Tein Street Advance coilovers with the Eibach camber kit and 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. I also have oem lower ball joints going in when the coilovers get put on (still deciding on what uca's to get. Oem or skunk2. wont be going aftermarket wheels and only lowering it 2-2.25" approximately).
Anyways, also finally washed and waxed my car this past Friday. Gotta say, NHBP cleans up nice. still need to correct swirls, but i must say, i do love this color at night against the light.

Update! Probably one of the best updates imo. Bought a few parts for myself because I wanted to reward myself for doing well this semester in school, soooo i spent some money. I bought the Tein street advance coilovers, Eibach camber kit, Oem uca, oem lower ball joints, and i got the hic rear visor for Christmas along with detailing stuff.
when i got everything together besides the Hic rear visor
couple pictures where it sits as of now. will be going lower in the rear and probably some on the front too. Found out i needed front brake pads BAD so ordered some ebc red stuff from endless. going to get lower ball joints pressed in, camber kit put on, brake pads, and alignment monday or wednesday next along with height adjustment to where id like it to sit.
Please excuse the dirty car and swirls... will be correcting them in the spring.
Also, I will be going with a 245/45/17 tire and i want to get wheel spacers. Will i rub with a 15mm F and 20mm R? Good brands? Anyone have experiance with proteg from endless rpm? I've researched ichiba, akata, h&r, but thought it'd ask.

with 245s you might rub when putting the spacers on.
I have 235s on a 9inch wheel with the same +45 offset and I threw 15/20mm spacers on and it rubbed like crazy in the front so I had to raise the car until i can afford to buy 225s

Obviously, be careful of rubbing if you go lower.
