Help and suggestion needed on 07, 05 Type S front bumper swap

Hello everyone,

It's me again with pic and about to update my car. I got my hands on a same color 07 Type S front bumper complete with grills and fog lights. I'm going to swap out my bumper w/ A-Spec front lip with this new 07 type S bumper. I'm also ordering the front spoiler for this new bumper. I need the wire schematic that fog light connect to. can I just plug the original fog light to the new low mount fog light? or should I just get 2 wires and wire them along side my original fog light (in this case, I'll have 4 fog lights ) I got the DIY video on front bumper removal from another thread (very helpful).

Is this a good idea to swap the bumper?

original setup:

I don't see why it would be a bad idea to go with this bumper. If you like it more, I say go for it!

i got few chips from the flying road debr. (hardly noticable) and this new set cost me about the same to repaint the front bumper. so, I decided to look around and found a great deal on the complete set I have also purchased an A-Spec front lower lip for this new bumper (arriving on friday).

Do you have any idea how to match up the wires for the fog lights?

How do you want the fogs to operate?

Either way, you need a relay. The stockfog wiring isn't thick enbogh to power two sets of fogs.

- 30 Power from battery - use an inline fuse
- 86 any body ground
- 87 to both foglight +
- 85 - trigger. Splice from runing lights, they come on with running lights, splice into existing fogs, they come with fogs. If I was taking the time to do this, I'd run the 85 splice exactly as you see in the pic (with a seperate switch), to a switched power fuse. This would allow the fogs lower fogs to operate independent of all the other lights.

wow.... thanx Kennedy, that's an awesome pic. so what will happen if I spice the 2 fog light wires? will that damage the fog light units or will the light not show up right? I was planning to tap into the same fog light wires (the one that goes to the main light housing) Or should I just reconnect the fog lights to the new lower mount unit and leave the original fog light as hi-beam?

I'll use these to connect the wires.

That means that little skinny wire you're showing will carry the load for both fog lights... which will surely pop your fog fuse and possibly melt the wiring.

Run the relay or risk a fire.

If you're using the relay with an 87 and 87a (like the one in the pic), you can use 2 dedicated wire to power each fog light. So, left fog wire is connected to 87 and right wire is connected to 87a. It will eliminate the need to splice the wire.

Another way, if you don't want to use additional switch. You can splice one of the factory fog light wire and connect it to the 85 terminal in the relay. In this case, your bumper and factory fog lights will turn on and off at the same time.

Either way, you need to use a relay to avoid overloading the stock fog light wires.

That's not a real issue though, and more work IMO...
You don't even need a 5 spade relay (harder to find).

Just connect the two + leads of the fogs together and tail them to the 87.

I already tried to exaplin about the "no switch". Whatever you connect to 85, will cause your lower fogs to come on... no need to run a switch in that config.

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

wonderful suggestions I've just drop off the bumper set at my friend's shop. I'll get it slap on tomorrow. He seems to know alot about wireing also. I'm gonna show him this thread and see if he can make heads and tails of the final setup of the fog lights. Thanx everyone for been so helpful. I'll keep everyone posted with the pic after completion. I'm also putting in the A-Spec front lip spoiler and the garnish on the hood (anyone got installation instruction on that tiny part?). Also, I think the 07 type S front spoiler is different from the rest of the 3rd gen TL. Is there a assembly instruction on that piece or should I just follow the same as the rest of the front lip installation?

Result of new 07 Type S bumper installed

Well fellas.... here they are I just got them installed.... Thanx goes out to all that help me in this mod.... I took the easy way out and connect both fog lights together.

Kennedy, where can I modify the connection again to prevent damage to this set up of mine? where is 85, 87 and 87a? Does your fog light run hot?

here are the pictures.... Anyone know how to remove the orange chalk like mark (TD) on the bumper?

Yep... I did the calculation and if I would've bought this setup it would've run me twice that amount I guess I got lucky and it fits perfectly even the color. I heard the seller got another one just like it for sale. This unit came with a cut fog light connector so it's easy to tap into the original fog light. but one question SteveP66, does your fog light run hot or extremely warm? i mean you touch the fog light housing on our integrated fog light...

I really don't know - I don't think I have ever used the intergrated fog light, much less touch it to see if it feels warm after use.......... Don't know on that one......

Thanx VQPower37, I'll snap a few more pix after work today. I visited the dealer today and they ordered the wrong front lip spoiler and the wrong crome trim in the front of the hood. so I guess I'll have to wait till next week to get it. When they showed me the box that front under spoiler, I don't think I can fit that in my car the 07 Type S and non Type S front bumper cover is very different on the lower fog light grill and lower part of the cover. the Type S bumper cover have almost the integrated A-Spec flair and look.

As for the fog lights, do you know if they make LED fog lights where they'll be bright enough and won't heat up at all?

It's not the foglight heat that's the problem... It's the wiring getting too hot from having to push all that power. Feel your wiring where you spliced it. If it's warm/hot, you're asking for trouble.

I'm really suprised power both fogs on the same circuit didn't pop the fuse.

well it make the load for the wires lighter if I change the bulb to LEDs? Do they make LED fog light bulb?

Here are some more pix

I took some pictures after work in better lighting... and cleaned the orange letters from the bumper, thanx to lithiumus for the cleaning advice... I took the car into the dealer and they gave me a good wash and remove the letters for free but they messed up my order and need to re-order the front spoiler and the chrome trim that goes in the front of the hood. Do you guys know what is the best price for the front spoiler? the dealership i to to can get it to me for ~$250. does anybody know how much "official" time it'll take to install the front spoiler only? the dealer is telling me it'll take 2 standard hr or they'll charge me 2 hr rate. my service advisor is telling me to install it myself and save the money. I have no problem doing that, the problem i have is that spoiler comes in a huge box and i don't think it'll fit in my car.... sigh....

well, enough of the complaint.....

using this, would i be able to get the stock fogs to come on independantly? if not, could you draw me a sketch on how to get them to on my 04? also, can the stalk switch be kept to work if done?

You probably could DIY the spoiler and save yourself some money - yeah, it's a big box but take it out of the box, lay the passengers seat flat and slide it in..........leave the box at the dealer!

Bretallica had an extra trim piece for the hood - he had it on eBay but I think if he still has it he would give you a good price for it.

Car looks great !

Yep. just splice the wire coming out of relay 87 and splice it into both + of the existing fogs.

Thanx SteveP66, that trim piece cost basically nothing ~$25 from the dealer. and I'll def. try to fit that big thing in the car. Do you have the installation instruction for the 07 type S front spoiler? it shaped differently from rest of the 3rd gen TL. I still have my old front spoiler in perfect condition and i know how to install that one. but the new one is gonna be a bit different.

psheu - I have an 06 so I'm not sure how different the 07 spoiler is to install. It should come with all the hardware and instructions tho - shouldn't be too difficult - probably just about the same as the 06.

I think I had the same spoiler like the 06 one also. the new 07 type s front spoiler covers over the fog lights and rise up higher than the rest of the 3rd gen front spoiler. I saw the posting by jacey and I think it'll end up looking like that. I'll defn. keep everyone posted on the out come. and thanx again for helping me
