DIY Detailing tips/pics and NEW Grill!

I know many of us like to do things on our own. I do detailing as a side job among automotive work. My car isn't ALWAYS clean.. This is great for a day like today which was in the 50's.

I started out 1st with my interior.
I purchased new floor mats from acura so it was time to do a good cleaning.

My floor as you can tell is pretty bad.

Using Turtle Wax carpet cleaner I was able to work up the stains

A final result of:

My floor mats are in the garbage, NEW VS OLD
My driver side one had holes and was missing patches of carpet hahaha

Next was the leather seats. Please buy yourself 2 boxes of MR. CLEAN MAGIC ERASER (Use warm water in a bucket)

Scrub your seats with firm pressure and the eraser will look like this.

When your done they should look like this

Use some bounty paper to wipe down the seats. Be amazed the paper turns brown.

Next I did all 4 door panels, kick panels and few trim pieces here and there
All door panels looked like this after using the eraser.

In the end the bucket was dirty..

Finished interior results! (Use some Leather conditioner after your finished with eraser)

Next time to wax up the car (wash car with dish soap so it strips off old wax)

Wax used :Professional series

Applied/taken off with: Turtle wax machine

Hand buffed with: Microfiber towel

Don't forget to wax your rims!

Results:

NEW GRILL!

Looks good .. be verry careful withthe Magic Erasers they can take the finish off of some interior trim and some dyes in the leather.

A better choise is a Woolite & water mix in a spray bottle .. use is 6 parts water to 1 part woolite.

Dish soap is a little harsh unless your doing it prior to clay barring and polishing .. Most waxes like the #26 have a little bit of cleaners in them and in most cases if the wax was 6 weeks old there isn't anything left anyway.. if your wanting it off do a 50/50 rubbing alcohol & water mix wipe down.

My seats were bad, I knew all the signs to be careful while using it. It did an amazing job.. granted my driver side seat has seen better days but it's def 100% better.

very nice. i am very meticulous when it comes to keeping my Type-S clean. i also detail myself. i wouldnt have used the spray foam myself but it looks like it came out good. a good investment is a Bissel Deep Cleaner.

Matainence is the key. Maintain and upkeep for longevity.

You are correct. I only applied wax to the car. If the temps outside were higher I would have done the whole 9 yards. Clay bar, compound, waxing and sealer.

looks great! one thing i did with my ASM / taupe interior TL when i had it was to swap out the acura taupe carpet floormats with acura black carpet floormats..it looked absolutely fantastic with the 2tone interior. and of course, black mats are a bit more forgiving when it comes to hiding stains and all.

WDP looks fantastico.

I was figuring since my hands are a little bigger than average i'd have to remove the bumper. Still tho, how in the hell did you remove all the clips?

Please share

Nice job! The interior looks 10x cleaner. I too was waiting for a warm day to clean out the TL. I cleaned some yesterday but didn't get nearly as far as you did. Clean car ftw

The piece on the hood is held in by 4 8mm nuts and in the center there's a clip. I broke the center clip that holds it but it's ok.

As for the piece that runs around the bumper it pops right off.

As for the center piece there are 5x 7mm bolts that hold it in place. It's a pita to do. Once the grill is off there are 2 screws that hold the center Acura logo on.

Ok that does an amazing job cleaning the leather. Now is there anything you can apply to it to soften them up and maybe get rid of some of the cracking?

Post Treating Cracking Leather

Step 1
Presuming the leather is dried - brush away all dirt and loose particles with a dry shoe brush.

Step 2
Wash the leather with glycerin-based saddle soap, using a clean shoe dauber (or your hands).

Step 3
Allow the leather to dry - DO NOT USE HEAT. The leather should feel creamy, but not wet. The flexibility should remain.

Step 4
Dawb the cracked leather with mink oil paste.

Step 5
Using the back side of your spoon, rub the cracks, lightly. This should smooth the oiled leather to the point that the cracks appear far less deep and pronounced.

Step 6

Once the cracks are as minimal as you can get them, treat the entire item with the leather conditioner of your choice. Buff to a gloss.

Step 7

Be certain to treat once a week with conditioner.
