Custom lower grill vents

Just finished up these, they were a test-fit as I messed up the plastic on them and didn't want them to be the final thing.

I have an extra set I'm working on that I sanded down better that'll be getting paint when I'm done prepping them (Bulldog Clean & Prep, Bulldog Adhesive Promoter then Dupli-color high-fill primer, sand, base coat & 2K epoxy clear).

They still came out pretty good, the chroming on the center fin is Avery Dennison's conform chrome vinyl film. Was a bit worried about adhesion to the plastic and we'll see how it holds up but it looks pretty good right now.

Photos attached

I'll see if I can get a better shot tomorrow during the day.

It actually doesn't look that bad.

Looking good! Those inserts are sure a pain to take out the first time.

To me it seems to have a "cheap" feel to it. Was never a fan of the mesh look.

Looks great man! I actually did the same but I used the Audi RS4 mesh to make mine. My buddy was doing an A4 to an RS4 bumper conversion so he had some lying around that I used.

It's not my taste, but I can appreciate the effort and wanting to be different. I think painting the grill black though may enhance the look of it.

Not chicken wire haha, it's chromed aluminum mesh.

I have some more of it, so far its on the front, on the rear type-S lip (I have a base TL though, should be getting my ATLP V2 quad exhaust this week) in the opening and I have another piece that'll be going in the grill just waiting on finishing up some work on the C-Mod grill that I'm putting in (cutting out the bar in the bumper). Waiting to finish painting/clearing it.

I'll pot some more pics when I'm done.

Agreed.

and if you like it thats what matters.

If it were me I would probably go with the black like nazTL did, that looks pretty nice.

i like the effort you put into it, OP.

personally, i think it would look better without that chrome strip across the mesh. here is how i did mine, mesh front grill and mesh lower aspec inserts on a type-s front bumper.

I might change it, I've got some other ones that I'm going to be painting soon, trying to decide on a color that will go well for the grill and lower vents with WDP, not really fond of black on the WDP but it does look really good on the black TLs.

I originally had thought about cutting that entire fin out and painting the rectangular outer part, it would leave that spot where the rounded edge meets with the bumper empty though and the end of that fin would leave a gap in the square part of the lower grill, I could fill that small gap with some urethane bumper bondo that I have though.

Kind of want to get the RonJon front bumper and sides and keep the base rear bumper with the type-S lip thats on it now. Maybe later..
