Custom eBay roof spoiler + boot spoiler.
Here I have an eBay roof spoiler and an eBay boot spoiler.
Can you guess what cars they were originally for? =p
The package.
Ordered on the 6th. Shipped on the 7th. Arrived on the 14th.
No duties paid. Awesome.
The roof spoiler.
Here's a hint for the roof spoiler:
The boot spoiler (should be obvious).
Just a quick note: This is not the ATLP roof spoiler. It sort of looks like it--but if you noticed... the end "dips" upward a bit.
Test fitting the roof spoiler.
This roof spoiler was roughly 46-47" long. Our roofs are roughly 44.5" long. That meant I had to shorten the roof spoiler.
Marked and began cutting the roof spoiler in half.
The incision:
The two ends:
Marked and cut 1 inch off of one half.
Marked and cut 1 inch off of other half.
Temporary "fix".
Test fit and was still every so slightly too long.
Went back and filed down each half by a quarter of a centimeter each.
Perfect fit.
Next step... "permanently" putting the two halves together and custom-fitting that boot spoiler onto the TL. Stay tuned for more!

Boot spoiler: 75 USD
Shipping was like 40 combined or so. I forget.

Thanks! It's the Mercedes W212 and the BMW E90.
Correct! 09+ E-Class!
The boot spoiler is going to be very tough... but I think with a little bit of ingenuity I can make it fit.
BMW's E90.
Pretty close! It's the 3 series sedan. Otherwise yes!
Currently about to "connect" the two ends of the roof spoiler back. Then this week it'll be figuring how to put that boot spoiler on!
Thank goodness for eBay! $70 USD.
It was either going to be this W212 Roof Spoiler or the Hamann Type Roof Spoiler for the BMW 3-Series. Given that they almost look identical I opted for the W212 knowing it was longer. I wasn't sure how long the Hamann was... so I went for longer as it'll be easier to work with [assuming the Hamann is shorter than the TL's roof line]
The boot spoiler... I'm not so sure currently. I did an initial test-fit and it seems like it'll be like a lot of work.
It'll be fun though and thanks!
Hahah, tell me abOOt it eh?

Once it's all said and done... both spoilers are to be scheduled for a make-over with CF once I rack in some income again [currently quit my part time job. also a full time student].
My buddy's poppa works in body+paint... I might be able to get it painted for the time being before I carbon-wrap it though
BUT in the mean time you can imagine this on the TL =]

I managed to put the pieces back together... but it wasn't "permanent".
I used some sort of epoxy [said plastic weld on it, opted that over JB Weld] and had let it cure outside attached to my TL.
Little did I know... it was going to rain that night. Then lo' and behold... when I took it off and set it down it fell apart. D'oh!~
My plan was to attach the two ends with epoxy then seal the seam with fiberglass as to make it 'permanent'. But that didn't go as plan so far.
But... here are pictures of it essentially "put together" after rained.
I have since [just now actually] went back and am trying to resolve this problem. I'm now using JB Weld... I know that is a more trusty epoxy.
I also taped the middle portion as to try to protect it from the elements. I decided to leave it on the TL to cure just in case I attached the two halves at the wrong angle. Leaving it on the TL as it cures ensures it maintain's it's original curvature.
I may let it sit for 24+ hours this time instead of 16.
Now, if you'll excuse me... the pooper is callin' my name! That 5 layer burrito from Cracko-Bell is startin' to do its toll.

Great job! wow...that certainly does look good!
I actually was thinking to try and make my EP3 civic si spoiler work. But it's short...guess I COULD stretch it out and shave what I need to. Maybe one day...

So, I attempted to to work on that E90 CSL spoiler... and it's a toughy.
No 'in-the-process'-photos but I do have some "after-ish".
Anyway, I started off by measuring the trunk. It measured roughly 44".
Then measured the spoiler... it was about 46".
So... I chopped it in half just like I did with the roof spoiler.
I tested fitted one half to see what kind of cutting I would have to go from there...
But due to the curvature of the spoiler the spoiler would not 'attach' very smoothly to the trunk.
I ignored that fact for the that time being... and began to cut part of the spoiler to match a bit more with the trunk-lines.
After that, I chopped the ends and a portion of the spoiler so it would "fit" onto the trunk with little to no hassle.
I did that for the other half hours later [took a long break].
It fit relatively well... But I forgot to accommodate the A symbol in the middle of the trunk.
And given the way I massacred this spoiler... I have to find a way to fill in the gap creatively and nicely.
And here are photos of just one half on. For both halves on... imagine the left portion on the right side with about a 2" gap inbetween [where there A symbol is.
Warning: Dirty car.
I think I need more tape:

The EP3 Si spoiler would be neat, I'd love to see it done now that you've mentioned it! Extending parts are more difficult than shortening them though. I'm currently in the process of extending the boot-spoiler. [First it was too long, but then I cut it in a certain way that now makes it too short].
Anyway, hope that one day with the EP3 is relatively soon. Again, would love to see it!
Blue painter's tape? Bahahah, I'm almost out of green... I think I might just have to go for blue soon!
Thanks! Roof spoiler is almost done. Needs sanding and painting. I might fiberglass the middle portion to ensure the bond stays strong though.
Boot spoiler still has lots more to go.

I was faced with a dilemma. What is the best way, easy or hard, to fill in gaps while extending a car part?
At first I was going to use use a foam-mock-up... But then I can't find the proper foam. [regular insulator foam is no good! I tried it once upon a time].
I then thought about using a paper-mache [sp?] or cardboard mock-up. Then I decided against that.
Then it hit me...
What do all car manufacturers first use to make a model car?
Clay.
And the best thing I got that was available was this:
Lots more work to be done.
Now... I need something to cover up my trunk. Maybe also some PVA and mold release.
I heard saran-wrap could be used as a poor-man's mold release too. Maybe I'll try that.

Lalalalalalala-update!
Firs of all... (for stvtec:wink I bought blue painter's tape. But it's the scotch brand and for some gosh-awful-reason... it sucks! Every time I peel a portion of it off--it rips entirely. I could not get a piece longer than 1cm.
Cost me 9 bucks for 3 rolls, which was supposedly on sale.
Went back and saw green painter's [non scotch brand] for sale. a package of 3 for 4 bucks. Fantastic!
Now onward.
Okay. So I took the roof spoiler off... I forgot when.
The JB weld held up well. That is... until I started sanding it. I didn't make a perfect seal so it started breaking on me. Luckily, I was planning to glass it anyway.
So, I glassed one side of the spoiler as the JB weld on the other side was untouched.
Then I sanded and glassed the other side.
I put about 3 layers of fiberglass on each side.
Unfortunately since it's structural integrity was lost... I couldn't leave it there to cure. So I had to tape it back onto the roof just to ensure it cures in the correct shape.
So, seam? What seam:
Then today/yesterday. [the 30th of Jan]. I decided to get working on the rear spoiler...
Started off by taping off 1/3 of the trunk with tape. Then mounted the two halves.
Some adjusting was made inbetween.
But, of course, a break was necessary to enjoy the finer things in life.
[good for the fellas with the ladies, for valentine's]:theghey:
Then before I got working on the clay... I wanted to 'test' it first. So I began working on another project of mine that I've been wanting to do for a while.
Buuuut... for some reason I was lost in the moment and did not think about removing the cup holders.
The result:
I'll probably remove the cup holder on Monday.
Then when I got a bit more comfortable molding the clay I worked on the trunk.
But by this point it was -18C out. Without wind.
I was able to essentially replicate the shape of the boot spoiler...
But at the same time, since the clay was water 'activated' it left a mess on my bumper.
And that's all for updates as of now.
I also need more clay.
Question:
Once everything is all said and done...
Should I...
A) Wrap the two spoilers in carbon fiber?
or
B) Paint both to match
If A) Then should I...
i) Leave the roof spoiler in only "raw" carbon?
or
ii) Paint the very sides of the roof spoiler and leave the middle section carbon? This would give it a bit of an Impreza STi Roof Spoiler look.
Then, should I...
ia) Leave the boot spoiler in only "raw" carbon?
or
iia) Paint the boot spoiler but leave the 'flat' section in carbon? This would give it a BMW sort of look.

Nice progress man...messy, but it looks like you know what you're doing.
Paint the lip spoiler SSM to keep the seamless look, and paint the roof spoiler gloss black and do your roof in gloss black

Future plans are: front A-Spec will be CF [and partially painted]... and I'll be having a CF splitter in front as well.
Also a rear CF diffuser.
But right now I got nadda.
I'm definitely going to be painting my roof a gloss black.
I'll put your thoughts into consideration, thanks!
Also it's more fun this way
Again, will put your thoughts into consideration.
Thanks! It's snowing too much here, though.
Maybe I should mold my spoiler out of snow and ice?
