Your off to a great start though, I've had my car for over a year and from the outside it still looks bone stock (minus the tints) !

Damn, I almost bought those wheels, but ran into a huge bill right before and couldn't buy them...
I'm kicking myself in the ass right now, they look great!
A-spec would look great on there too.

I wouldn't just put a "hole" in the enclosure...its a little more complicated than that. And BTW...whoever said you would lose SQ going ported...Only if you had a high tuning or it wasn't the right size enclosure for the subs. I had some of the most accurate bass I had ever heard on a sub in a 4^ft boxed tuned around 28hz...it was getting around 1800w...talk about SQL
#34
actually u hit lower bass notes with a sealed box....sealed gives you a more dynamic range of sound. ported has to be tuned very very very differently and in a car its not practical....the port would be huge.

SQL doesnt exist its SPL and ported is recommended for SPL because you are tuning the port to a note you want to hear....it doesnt mean your going to have a good range of sound being put out through it.....it just means you have a less dynamic range of sound...your box was tuned to 28hz inside or outside of the car??? the roll off is where your range starts so if the tune was set to 28hz lets say your roll off was at 39hz...from 39hz up you would have a range of sound that was produced for you to hear....anyuthing below that sounded like porno pu*** flapping in the wind.
the resonant frequency of the inside of the car is how you tune a ported box or even sealed for that matter to a frequency you feel is good. I have 3 10inch jl w6v2's in a a sealed enclosure producing 148dB at 1280watts

What mic are you using and where was the mic placed when you were getting 148db? Not saying its not possible, just curious. I can't see how you say using a ported box in a car isn't practical, and that SQL doesn't exist. I understand cars have tuning peaks and what not that varies from vehicle to vehicle. I would say 95% of people on diyma and ca.com run ported enclosures. Its all about sub placement and direction to fire port. Tuning a ported box for a daily setup vs a "fart box" for SPL is completly different. I do agree sealed enclosures are more accurate than ported. Also...ported boxes are more efficent than sealed boxes.
The Type R's that the OP is running are no where near SQ subs, but they do get very loud for a daily driver in the right enclosure (and can sound decent doing it). I haven't heard may R's that are very accurate (sealed or ported)

by far the type r's are very impressive i have to agree..... I have term pro its a kit they sell with the mic i have no idea of the model but ill look when i get home....i also have an spectrum analyzer from audio control its old and the mic sux so i dont bother with it anymore...i mainly like to mess with that for pink noise. the mic is placed in the same place as the competitions... passenger side on the window 6inches high 4 inches in form the pillar. any sub can be made SQ but who wants that lol i think most of us like loudspeaker systems.....i like to be on the border....another member stated this in another part of the forum Its like concert volumes and studio quality. best of both worlds without breaking stuff....including your ears...my girl has a hard time keeeping the volume low and shes always bitching how other people are so loud lol.
