2 Left Muffler Type-S Build: complete

so this will probably never be done again, but as a young guy i was willing to put some work into it. i wanted the quad exhaust badly but cant afford a 1,000 piece of machinery right now. so my idea went to picking up 2 left t-s mufflers because the right side goes all the way to your cat. (i love the type-s tips)
i looked for a while on here and could never find anyone selling so i gave up and went to a stealer. lucky for me i bargained with them by saying i found a better deal online (kinda ) i got 2 mufflers for 470 including taxes. the right side i believe is 200 more.

now onto the build

pics of both mufflers

this one shows you that flipping them over is not quite the same

my first task was to take the tips off at the closest points to the tips so no other angles would be messed up. youll notice that the outlets are slightly higher when flipped over, hangers were adjusted accordingly.

this is me just guessing as to how they will sit

the next task was getting the hangers flipped to the opposite side, way easier said than done.
the ideal way to do this is with a straight hanger and a 90degree hanger which you can buy for about 4$.

as shown the straight goes infront and the rear hanger is slighty higher so the 90 will sit vertical on the muffler and angle back horizontally. sry no pic.

now came the part of connecting the new muffler to the original catback.
i bought a 90degree elbow to do this job, it gave me plenty of extra piping to use incase.

now to welding.

muffler just in hangers

how the mandrel bent pipe came into play( this is a must)

me putting the wheels back on

this is what it looked like before

and after

new tips stick out about a quarter inch extra which is my fault but i feel really good about this project. maybe in the future ill buy an exhaust that actually does something for my car

i admire the work you put into this, and that you actually executed your idea...but why not just buy a second hand full catback off of the black market here? i got my xlr8 quads for a few more bucks than you spent on 2 stock mufflers. you spent $470 on looks alone, not including the time you spent doing all of this plus the welding/install cost n time.

i love the looks of the type-s more. i wasnt going for power. and shop time was free. what does a lil hard work hurt? it actually makes me feel better about my ride. me getting this is like someone getting an aspec, no functionality but it looks good.

just to add, i got type-s bumper and lights for free.

oh.

sorry man, it just seems like a whole lot of work/money for nothing. just my opinion tho, it is your car and your cash in the end. like i said, i admire what you did...and the time you put into it...it just seems like a waste to me. you could have welded in 2 magnaflows and gotten a better look/sound for way less money.

Now you definitely need the A-spec kit to complete the look. Nice work on the install, btw.

It looks ok, but it's not complete yet.

Couldn't you have just picked up a used TL-S exhaust for that price? Instead of just the mufflers? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice job. I admire your drive to do this and the work it took to get there. I'd rather do something myself as it's more satisfying to me than just spending money to bolt something on in 10min.

Nicely done, I admire the work that went into it but a used cat back would have cost that or less and would have been alot easier! I love quad tips!
