Shit is hot! I have a 05' SSM and want to do this Mod. do you have to cut anything to get the type-S headlight to fit the 05' bumper? I know you got a type s bumber and wanted to know what you had to do for that also?

nope, the type s headlight fits right in and for a period i had 07-08 type s headlights on an 05 bumper with aspec lip. no cutting or anything--however; the ballast sizes are different and the turn signal and foglight sizes are different.

the 07 bumper fits right in but you have to get all the parts for the center grill, all the parts for the lower fog housing and the fog lamps themselves which cost a fortune. the housing for the foglamps fit kind of funny and you have to wiggle it in because the bumper absorber gets in the way but eventually it fits right in.

Brian has probably the best headlights on the forum (I know Kennedy is gonna say no way, no ZKW etc.) but that's our opinion. What sets Brian's apart are the diffusers. ua6spec was the first to try them like this. But Brian's also has the halo and switchbacks treatment.

Before the mod we were trying to weight the pros and cons of discarding the diffuser vs. modding it. Discarding it looks great. But at the same time it is a "been there and done that" type of look and we of course wanted something unique for Brian's car.

Also safety-wise the diffuser is better. Acura had these headlights engineered and designed to make the light from the bulb be visible in all conditions. The diffuser helps evenly distribute the light. When you remove it, you lose that. With LEDs in the daytime or direct bright sun, it does not show up too great from the side. Only from head on because it relies on the reflector to project the light. Also it hides the bulb and it is unexposed from view. He decided modded diffuser is the way to go.

Rockyfeller's Type-S diffuser mod:
(I am in a DIY post mood!)

The Type-S looks fine just fine being cleared:

To be different is good and I am addicted to a challenge though. Once you have the diffuser out you will notice the orange reflectors are separate and can be popped out:

You are now left with 2 clear plastic boxes which are the backing of the reflector. You can leave them there as ua6spec did but sorry, detail freaks can't have that. I cut them out. (Dremel is your friend!)

Sanded them flush.

I was left with the whitish edges of the cut plastic. Not a big deal since the black frame of the headlight would disguise it. I applied super glue to them in an effort to give them a more lucent crystalline appearance. It worked.

While I was at it I also performed the "Color mod" on his headlights while I was at it. I know it is a subtle mod but I like it. Installed halos, switchbacks, reassembled and there you have it!

This was NOT a fun mod. There was a lot of trial and error because his car is a 2005. Hopefully none of you guys will go through it because of this thread! Different ballasts, different front 1157 bulbs instead of 7443....having the wrong connectors etc. But in the end it worked out and as you can see from the result it was worth it!

This boy gets bored quick! He had single angel-eyes done in 2007. In 2008 he Type-Sd his front end and now he is movin on to a different look again. Only 1 yr later? Brian you are a crazy man!

Haha, thanks rocky.

Again, many thanks goes to rocky who has made this possible.

Hey Fin, I'm getting a bit bored of the whole angel eye set up, I'm looking into the led strip that many ppl are getting done from JnC (the audi like leds).

If i could find an led strip that has less LEDs and are bigger, Im looking into getting a new set of headlights.

BUT, this time I want cleared headlights, WITH the diffuser cleared. Basically, I want to remove the amber pieces, and leave the diffuser in there so the chrome is slightly exposed behind the two rectangular pieces. What do you think?

Looking at the other guys headlights, I think the white switchbacks with white LED strip look ssiccckkkkkkk......

You gotta always keep it different huh? You can't do another pair of Type-S headlights man! That is SO 2007! Just slap a pair of R8 headlights in there! I DARE YA!! HAHA!

I agree those strips look pretty unique. I want to see what they look like in person to get a better idea. I understand the look you are going for...Somewhere there has to be a strip that will work exactly for this. So you are goin from "BMWish" to "Audish"? Lamborghini is doin a cool thing with their lights too. It can be your 2010 mod!

I am a little lost as to what you meant about the diffuser? Are you meaning you want the diffusers put the same as before but the chrome part that was painted black on the edges left chrome? So that basically would mean the lights are cleared and not blacked at all. Hmm if that's what you mean, nahh I would not be feelin that on your NBP. Blacked is the ONLY way to go there. Only maybe on a ASM or WDP. You could do carbon fiber trim there ala Kennedy (I know you just WANT to copy him!) But then you don't have a CF thing goin on like my car.

Hahaha, yeah, basically I want the amber pieces removed, and that's it. You think that'll look sick? I really like how the diffuser contains the light off the turn signal.

I've recently been getting really into the all cleared look... I'm thinking of completely just removing the amber.
