'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread

I've got an 05 6 speed/navi tl that was a victim of vandalism ( I believe insurance fraud). It's white with grey interior. My goal since purchase was to convert it to black interior, but finding a parts car for this wasn't cheap..

Gonna track progress through this thread. I'll try to take pictures but sometimes when I get going, I forget =). Most people would count this car out but I can see the potential and it WILL be a nice car again.

Issues :

-The majority of the car has been keyed
-Missing nearly all of the interior
-Navigation screen smashed in
-Steering column cut at base so it needs new steering wheel, airbag, combo switch, column, ignition, ignition harness etc.

This is my first TL rebuild so I may have questions too

Pics coming later

Can this please be moved back to the general TL section? This is a rebuild more so than a 'build' and will have tech questions involved.

Here are a couple of pre-pics, its MADNESS!!!!!

Bought this car in 09 and its been on the back burner for a while. Excited to get it done!

Sweet, Bring that WDP back to life. BTW the silver TL maybe has the Type S rear marker or USR one, take it off and put it on the WDP. Good Luck

I believe the car was insurance scam because they smashed in the navigation screen and completely hacked the steering column, keyed a good portion of the car and removed but left behind most of the interior minus the seats and door panels ( everything was in the trunk. Because of the hacking the whole dashboard has to come off in order to replace the ignition harness

Bought the harness off ebay for 205 shipped
Bought the navigation screen off ebay for 118 shipped ( got a smoking deal on it) he wanted 200+shipping but had the best offer option so I offered him 101.00 and he accepted!

The harness circled in red has a bout 40 wires attached to it. I have an extra harness from the gunmetal parts car that I could hack off and splice together but I'd prefer to remove the dash and completely replace the hacked harness. It's by FAR a lot more work, but this way I know I won't run into any issues now and less chance down the road ( I'm super picky!!!).

Thank ya!

Soooooo, trouble in paradise! I guess these dash harness is specific to year, navi, and transmission. I purchased an 04 harness but my car is an 05

Removed dashboard.

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-r7wnfs2.jpg

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-ltfnr2h.jpg

Was pumped and had everything ready to rock and roll and quickly noticed my harness had fewer plugs on the passenger side than the one I purchased.

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-l1egkju.jpg

I've searched hi and low for this harness and can't find it anywhere, except acura. I can't justify spending 700 dollars due to being picky. Bought some heat shrink, got the schematics and the plugs, so wiring up the cut harness seems to be the only feasible option for me at this point.

Deff a HUGE project!!! This is my first TL rebuild so I'm learning as I go, but things are coming together nicely!

Old carpet out
Cleaned floorboard and all metal
Installed front portion of new black carpet
Car is fully tinted but back window was covered in bubbles so I removed it and the nasty film it left behind ( was a huge PITA)
Swapped over all seatbelts to black
Replaced rear deck lid in back window with black
Replaced some of the moldings and plastics with black

Already sold all 4 doors, front fender, front headlight, front core support and a few misc odds and ends off the tl. 800ish more bucks and I've made my money back on the parts car =)

Hardly took any pics =/

Rear carpet and back seat back in & got dash harness all wired together. On the bight side it saved me 175 dollars. Spent a good amount of time cross referencing wires with the 04 harness using a light tester to ensure everything was wired properly.

Purchased steering wheel airbag for 125 shipped
Purchased ignition for 47 shipped

You left the rear side markers on!!

Good luck with project. Looks promising.

Be sure to change cabin filter, while you got everything all apart

Got the dash on today. What sucks is everything is integrated so there's functions on the steering wheel that are connected to the radio etc etc. I won't be able to test my wiring for a couple days but I did get the navigation screen to power on, but I need the code from Acura to see if it operates correctly. I don't know these cars at all so I don't know if the stereo should turn on on its own or what indicates if it's working or not but I got no signal that its working. Headlights work, wipers do not work. I don't know if srs, immobilizer, and all of that stuff works and won't know until I get all of it put back together. Took a break from it today to start with a fresh mind tomorrow. Bright side of it all, car has been sitting for so long that it only has 42k miles on it ( I thought it had more ).

Gonna get the immobilizer bypass tomorrow from acura along with the navigation code.

^Awesome project!

Cabin air filter change can be done by just dropping the glove box. Here is a diy, it's not too late!

I got the immobilizer bypass from Acura along with the navi code, i guess the radio has a separate code as well but I didn't have the serial number for it so the service guy gave me his number to call back and get it. Can't get the bypass to work. Its pretty tricky to begin with and he didn't know if it was hand brake or foot brake. Anyway, plugged in the auto ecu along with the key and ignition and the car fired right up! At least I know my wiring to the immobilizer works! I was able to move the car back and forth but didn't move it too much because no steering wheel yet.

Stopped by the lock smith to have them repin my key so my newly bought ebay ignition matches all the other locks. Last time this guy charged 25, now he said 35. He's a HUGE hot head and loses his cool quick. I left without the work done. I'll find someone else to do it.

Forgot to mention this. Plugged in the navigation unit and it would power on but no function to the touch screen now. I have my daughters help me when I'm out there (7 & 3 ). They love being in there with me so I let them tighten bolts and do little stuff and then I'll go behind their work and double check it. Well, I let my daughter carry the navigation screen into the house. I found it on the piano bench the next day seemingly in perfect condition. Screen wont function now. I asked her if she or her little sister dropped it and she says no. Did little stuff today but that kinda grinded the momentum to a hault. Really bummed because I cant find a decent priced screen anywhere else. Will mess with it more tomorrow.

Grr! This navigation unit is driving me nuts. So I figured out why the radio didnt work. Both fuses for radio were not working. Plugged in fuse and it instantly pops. Now I have to chase wires and try to figure out where its grounding out at! Did little things to the car and took a break from navi again. Will update again tomorrow =)

Passenger seat in. Everything else in the picture looks like a mess =)

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-wlunzbe.jpg

Driver seat wouldnt move back or forth. Theres a motor and cable that runs the track back and forth. The cable plugs into the right seat rail must have been broke during the accident. Searched all over for a set of seat rails and couldnt find one. Went to a local junkyard thats know to be a complete ripoff and they had a junky old driver seat that they take their break on. Bought the seat and the driver front window for 100 bucks. Hopefully it works for my application.

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-dc2qsau.jpg

FAR from pretty but its come a long way!

'05 TL WDP Progress/Rebuild thread-xxytudr.jpg

Back seat looking good. I was able to get the passenger door panels on. Will install the driver properly after I've installed the window. driver rear still needs purchased. Tow truck driver jammed the bumper in the back seat and destroyed the driver rear

Thanks guys!

Navigation is fully functioning now. I'm pretty happy/shocked that it all works properly.

Bought the rest of my misc interior pieces that I need

Driver rear door panel
Knee panel
dimmer switch
Panel next to knee on driver side
3 rubber window sills

$200

Had my key re-keyed. Swallowed my pride and went back to the hot head. I didn't want to pay the 35 but he's the best price in town and he can also program my keys to new ignition. For some reason he quoted 15 when I showed u and 50 to program. Programming didnt work so I got the ignition done for 15.

Since the car wouldn't reprogram I was a bit worried that some part of the immobilizer unit was malfunctioning. Found another locksmith to do the programming for 45. After going there and explaining it all to him, he said I need the honda HDS unit since the antenna on the key needs programmed and that he had it but one of the mobile guys had it and wouldn't be in until the following day. We figured out the guy lived in the same city as me so he stopped by my house and programmed the tl and an s2000 for 75.
