XLR8 vs. custom Magnaflow

Has anyone compared two TL's in person one that has xlr8 and the other with custom magnaflow? (by that I mean like 2 rear magnaflow mufflers and deleted midmuffler and resonator). I have that kind of custom exhaust but I want it to be louder on take offs and I was wondering if the xlr8 exhaust was a big difference. Or should I just get a j pipe or PCD's? Any help is appreciated

XLR8 is much louder.

Magnaflow just sounds so deep, but not that loud.

Xlr8 is decently loud but not obnoxious (at least the resonated version). But you can add pcds or HFPCs and it will make it louder also. Pcds might add rasp also it's risky

But like in comparison to the custom magnaflow i mentioned above because im just trying to find out it i should spend 1000 bucks on a new setup, so like if it really is a big difference between the two

Local meets in your area, I know big Flori-duh meet in regional section. Best way to hear different systems, videos give base line but IMO don't give most exhaust notes justice

It's always very different listening to exhausts on Youtube rather than in real life. There are also some benefits to our exhaust that aren't necessarily noticeable in a Youtube video. All of our exhaust tubing is mandrel bent on sophisticated CNC machinery for a precise fit and uninterrupted exhaust flow. What’s more, the use of T-304 stainless steel flanges offers high strength and complete resistance to harsh elements. All hangers, resonators, and tips are T-304 stainless steel as well.

Our XLR8 exhaust for the TL is also in my opinion the best sounding system available. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for", and I think our exhaust is no exception. It is a higher quality product and will last longer and sounds better.

But if you are going off of Youtube videos, this is one of my favorites this TL has our V2 J-Pipe as well but will give you an idea of the sound our exhaust produces.

XLR8 exhaust does sound heard on few different TLs.. A well made system no doubt. But I'd still suggest meet to please ears for OP, no hard feelings XLR8, as I'll most likely be future XLR8 slapped myself

No hard feelings at all. I'd rather have the customer purchase our exhaust because he knows it's the one he wants rather than blindly purchase it and end up not liking it.

Is there anyone i could message who has gone to a meet and heard both? I know there has to be, the whole 2nd stage exhaust with magnaflow mufflers is pretty common and xlr8 is definitely common, so someone has had to heard both. Thanks for all the input btw, and the TL in that video sounds amazing

Yeah i did but i asked if it had the midmuffler and resonator deleted as well and you never responded. The reason why i say that is because i wouldn't say my current exhaust is "just deep" , because it's pretty loud and supplies more than just a deep grumble that you hear when you ease on the gas

I have the stage 4 (mid muffler and resonator straight piped) with Magnaflow 11365 rear mufflers.

To answer your question, it's a HUGE difference from XLR8.

So as one who would prefer loud, head turning, quality sounding exhaust would you all recommend XLR8? Definitely sounds the best to me, but i've only seen videos.

Our XLR8 exhaust is definitely head turning and definitely high quality. It is also pretty noisy when you get on it, but isn't terribly loud when your cruising. If you get our resonated exhaust, then there won't be much drone either.

So when you go WOT its really loud? Thats something i really want, an exhaust that doesnt become overpowered by engine noise going WOT. Loud for me definitely isn't an issue, it's a preference actually, as long as it doesn't sound ricey or obnoxious which none of the videos I've seen portray it in that way.

It sounds like our exhaust is right for you. It will be fairly loud but also sound great and have a high quality performance tone.

Hey XLR8, do you know if in that video he had anything else running on his exhaust setup? The V2 jpipe and probably the quad exhaust non resonated? Let me know because im trying to get THAT setup and sound for my 07 TL-S! Thanks

and if you aren't sure about what he's exactly running, do you know what I should get (setup wise) from you all to get that sound. I love your products and have been thinking of purchasing your v2 jpipe and mufflers for awhile

You are correct, it is our TL-S quad exhaust (dual tip left and right) and our V2-Jpipe. The exhaust in that video is actually the resonated version.

XLR8, will the non-resonated version add rasp though? or just make the overall sound louder for this setup above? I love the sound of it, just want to make sure it doesn't have the rasp

Non-res will prob add drone, not certain bout rasp. PCD add rasp, minor smell. But to cold starts

XLR8, will the non resonated version of your exhaust add any rasp? and will it add droning when at idle? I love the sound of this exhaust, if it was a tad louder itd be perfect, im thinking the non-res exhaust would do this, but dont want the rasp. Thoughts?

As Drowning mentioned, our non-resonated exhaust will have some drone while cruising around. It will not be raspy though, it will still have a nice deep quality sound.

When it comes down to it, the drone I think is pretty subjective. If you are concerned about it get a resonator. But I have had people get our ATLP system with a resonator and think it was too quiet. Same with the XLR8.

We've heard many exhausts on TLs...these systems sound the best:

Call me crazy, but I feel like I could get much better sound if I took my TL to my exhaust guy and for under half the price. He uses a "knock off" Magnaflow muffler which I have run on 2 of my VW Jetta VR6 cars and they sound amazing for 1/2 the price and are made, apparently, in the same factory as Magnaflow.

Does anyone actually know how much HP a "full" system free's up? I have realized after I have installed and have had many exhaust systems fabricated that exhaust, for the most part, is sound related. A better flowing exhaust definitely frees up some HP and TQ, but what is the consensus is to which "setup" actually produces real world power?

I am kind of at the point where I look at exhaust as a tone producer.

I have done TONS of research on exhaust systems for the TL. Custom, ATLP, RV6, XLR8, etc. and TO ME XLR8 is by far the best sound. I've seen where it adds moderate hp, i think i read 5 hp somewhere? Anyways, exhaust tone is highly a preference. You may like the sound of a custom magnaflow setup better than the XLR8, but some, like me, may like the more exotic throaty sound better. Don't get me wrong i love my custom magnaflow and the ones i've seen on videos, but to me the XLR8 is something that can't be matched. But once again, just a preference.

Thank you to the very knowledgeable XLR8 technician who talked on the phone with my dad and let us know that the cylindrical add on in the picture is just an upgrade of the purge resonance technology!
