Question Why is the red line so high?

Hey I have a question for everyone (hope I dont get flamed for this ). But I know in our cars the redline is 6800 RPM, but I was recently reading this website http://www.hondanews.com/CatID3000?m...70963&mime=asc <---- and it says that the maximum HP is reached at 6200 RPM so I was wondering if the maximum power is reached at 6200 RPM why is the red line 600 RPM higher? And I don't think it's configured liket hat to hold the maximum power longer because to me it feels like the power drops after 6200 RPM. Does anyone have any idea on why they did this? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I was just wondering why it was set so high because if the the rpm was lowered to 6200 RPM gas mileage would b better due to the fact that the engine would not being revving so high for no apparent reason. Thanks ahead of time guys.

When you are driving fast, (as in taking the car up to redline), you do so not because that is where you reach the peak of the car's power, but it will put you in a more optimal powerband for the next gear also.

Shifting at 6200 rpms puts you lower when you upshift to a higher gear. And, 6800 rpms is not high comparatively...9000 rpms is high. Heaven in an RX-8...

Plus if you are worried about gas mileage 6200 rpm is just as bad as 6800.

In the J32 the power does peak at 6200rpm, but it doesnt really fall off. Being able to make good power to redline is what makes the TL fast.

No car makes peak hp at redline, they all have 500-1k rpm after peak to allow the next gear's powerband to be inline.

Plus, even at your highest gear, doesn't higher rpm = faster car? In other words, even if you pass your peak power, you don't need ALL the hp to go even faster, do you?...it would be sad to have redline = peak hp.
