What's so great about the AEM V2?
So I've had my 2007 TL Type-S for about 3 months now and it's time for a mod. I want to get a cold air intake for now (J-pipe later).
I've done some pricing for different manufacturers and also read a whole bunch of previous posts about this subject. It seems to be the consensus around hear that the AEM V2 is the way to go for our cars, but why? It's the most expensive one of but, aside from the dual chambers, I don't see why. I'm assuming from the product description that the advantage of this 2 piece tubing is nominal insulation from heat soak caused by under-hood temperatures during the air's journey from the front bumper to the intake manifold. But does anybody actually know what the full functional purpose is behind the new construction of the V2 product in comparison to other CAI's and the previous AEM offering. I would be very interested to hear people who really know about this stuff have to say.

get the jpipe, not the intake.
your car already has a cold air intake, stock. remove the resonator box if you want to free up some sound. the aemV2 won't do anything for you except make noise, it is and always will be an utter waste of $300.
put that money towards the jpipe. don't think about it, just do it.

I think its just marketing.
the difference between cold air intakes is the way it sounds. the design (bigger chambers, 2 chambers, blah blah blah) is how the air resonates in the tube.
the performance you'll gain is marginal.

As an owner of both the AEM V2 and a J-Pipe (RV6 v1), I recommend the J-Pipe first based on it's performance.
I do have to qualify that statement by saying I did notice a difference after installing the V2---I describe it as a "lighter" throttle or not needing as much gas pedal to maintain a certain speed. Some will say that means I got more horsepower, others would argue the point, which is why I describe it as I do.

Get the J-pipe. Ur ass will love you for it. I have both the intake and j-pipe. From first hand experience. The intake sounds kool. The j-pipe will pass the wife test.
it sucks up water, and whistles!
Cai sounds pretty aggressive, but lacks the increase in power.
Jpipe adds some tq...so if you are going to get one or the other start with the pipe.
I have both and honestly did not feel that much of a difference.

how much would a jpipe run me and where can i find it online? is it easy to install sorry nooby question. and would you guys suggest that this be a good upgrade as a first upgrade for my tl. everything is bonestock as of now
1. price is around $450.
2. it's a bolt on part.
3. yes, get it now.
The only trouble I had installing it was taking off the old j-pipe. I suggest prepping your car by getting it on jackstands the night before. Because the J-pipe has been subjected to HIGH heat, the bolts will be hard to get off. Use PB Blaster, and soak the bolts over night, then in the morning get a breaker bar and break the bolts loose.
