Trouble making up my mind: PCD or HFPCD

I'm stuck between the PCD or the HFPCD. With the PCD and Rv6 J-pipe (3rd cat delete), how bad is the rasp? Does it throw codes? If so, how do you fix it? How much louder is it?

These are just things I'm wondering.

Your best combo is the HPCD's and the RV6, the PCD may create to much rasp.

Rasp is not a big deal. Just add a bigger resonator to exhaust system.

For the the price difference, I'd get the PCD, but I haven't heard the rasp in person and don't wanna sway you into thinking that the resonator is a game changer.

I have a dynomax resonator, and jpipe and the rasp around 4k rpms when it's cold (goes away when warm) was enough to keep me from getting either.

Car is fast enough to dart into traffic...don't need any faster than that.

yeah, I spent a while on youtube. Definitely going with the hfc's. You get more of the rich sound without the rasp.

No rasp or smell at all with the HFC's, no need to add a resonator, and a slightly more aggressive sound. Picked up a little over 1 mph in corrected trap speed, which tells me they added roughly 10 whp. To me, the extra ~5 whp you'll get from the deletes is not worth the negatives.

if you're going on the mission AND don't have emissions in your state, given the cost, I would say I would go with PCD's better than the hi flows but MAN, I'm so worried about being annoyed the rasp. I really am...if it wasn't for that, this mod would probably be done since my jpipe would love it.

What are you running? What's the rest of your setup...my concern is I was warned that my jpipe and version three with stock catback would get raspy...and I can tell you that even my setup now...is raspy when cold.

LOL, ok.

Going from a 900 cell cat to a 200-300 cell cat is hardly pointless.

Bringin a thread back from the dead. . .

I currently have the rv6 v3 j pipe and xlr8 exhaust. I will be purchasing a set of either PCD's or HFC's but I have a few questions.

Whats the power difference between the PCD and HFC?

Does anyone have my set up with either of these? How's the rasp?

I just installed my exhaust a couple weeks ago and it sounds bad ass, so I really dont want to ruin the sound, or hack up my exhaust to install another resonator after I just bought it.

How's the smell of PCD's in the cabin?

Right now I am leaning towards HFC's but would love to save some cash and gain some power if the PCD's are all they are played out to be

Grizzly did you not read the thread?
He even has the the xlr8 exhaust(res or nonres i dont know)

NO smell in cabin with PCDs.
only with windows down at a stop light, is when you can smell the pungent fumes!

PCDs makes what, 3-5 more HP then the HFPCs?

I've heard with any aftermarket exhaust the PCDs don't really make much rasp. It's the stock exhaust and stages that the PCD rasp is really bad. Could be partly wrong on this one though.

The PCDs do have some smell. Like justn said, you can't smell it in the cabin but you can with the windows down and at a stop.

I personally will be going with the HFPCs. Smell is not something I want to deal with.

^I love my stage one too. And if it weren't for the smell I would have PCD already. Now I'm just saving up the $1000 for the HFPC/v3 package.

Until I go FI I have no desire to get an aftermarket exhaust.

Or add the magna res that Richie recommended. Entire thread just on that subject.

^^^and you don't have the aftermarket exhaust either?

I guess I'm leary of it cause the stage 4 uses a magnaflow and it sounded raspy even with no other mods. Is it just the fact that the magnaflow he recommends is like 15 feet long?!!? If so, as Anil recommended (IIRC) i can probably sell my dynomax resonator to pay for the magnaflow and then get the precats.

IIRC, the dynomax res is what makes the stage 4 different from the stage 3 right? It's a lot shorter resonator.

I would remove that and replace with the larger magnaflow res that Richie recommends. I bet you're stage 4 would sound a lot deeper.
