Torque Specs for Strut Tower?

you dont need to worry about torquing those bolts. its not a vital component and it is not as functional as you think it is. its more for looks. just make them hand tight with a 1/4" ratchet

I know that this thread is a bit out of date but there are conflicting answers here and I am planning on pulling my strut tower brace and painting it tomorrow. Just wondering if it does actually have to be torqued down or not. I don't have a torque wrench on hand and I don't see the need to buy one if I don't need it for this particular project.
There are torque specs for most fasteners. In this instance it's not critical so just tighten the nuts with a 3/8" rachect. Simply use your arms not your body.
A 1/4" rachect is insufficient unless it's a long handle rachect, even then you are abusing the tool.
Honestly, if you are going to wrench on your vehicle, sooner or later you will need a torque wrench. Now is a good of time as any to buy one. Just wait for a sale.
Tip: Pay attention to the type of material.
Metal vs alumimum
Alumimum will strip much easier. If it's alumimum one should use a torque wrench for sure.

So I just looked up that service manual...WTF...what the hell was I just looking at!?! I have read many service manuals in my time, but whatever that was was far beyond anything I have ever seen.
It you spend some time with it, you'll note it lists every part number for basically every component of the TL.
You should also note that the strut brace should be re-installed with the car on the ground; I'd forward/reverse a few times before applying torque.
