TL vs 350z

MY friend just got an 07 Nissan 350z stock. I have an 06 TL with cold air intake, quad exhaust, type s rims, and type s body kit. I want my car to be badder and faster than my buddy's Z. Any recommendations for mod's that give me the most bang for my buck?

your TL should already be faster than the Z, if not weight reduction is your friend.

I lol'd. Not true at all. 07-08 350z's have the VHR engine, and about 30-40 whp more than the 03-06.

07-08 runs 13.1-13.3 in the quarter mile @ 105-107 MPH, as fast as an E46 M3. TL is what, 14.2 @ 99 MPH bone stock at best if it's a 6 speed?

Yeah, no, the 350z will destroy even a supercharged TL.

from a rolling start on ramp to the highway i beat a 370z and i was behind him, i caught up and passed him that is at WOT for both of us. that was before i put on the RV6 exhaust. Also my nephew has an 08 EVOX MR with exhaust, intake, and some custom piping done and again i can beat him and that was before i put on my RV6 exhaust. Now with it on............................

Maybe you beat the driver, but do the math. Do you really think that a car trapping 99-101 MPH is going to beat a car that traps 105-107 MPH given equal drivers?

The 370z driver and your nephew need to learn how to drive their cars before it's even worth mentioning that you beat them.

Correction... an 07-08 350z. A TL 6MT or TL Type S 6MT has a good chance at handing an 03-06 350z its ass in a roll race.

Oooo tough words, i figured i would get that kinda reply, but i did mention it was rolling starts. And if u know EVOX MRs u know the are sst tranny and impossible to misshift. As for the 370 maybe he was shit driver, sure but either way i know what happened. Maybe both of those cars a just unusually slow, or my car is unusually fast. I guess we will never know.

TL is a great car but beating a 350z with a good driver is a bit out of reach. numbers dont lie, they have more hp.

It may or may not be relevant, but today I was even-or-better with a G37 auto until he backed off. I don't typically succumb to street battles, but he seriously wanted to go.

turbo, bottle , weight reduction then you can beat it . Come on guys, how can a stock or a TL with a few mod can defeat 350Z 100%.

No it won't. A TL supercharged will make enough power to put down a stock Z. Talkin' out your ass here.

See, the problem here is that you're another one of these silly bench racers.

Depending on what kind of race he does, QTR mile times mean jack shit. If he does a roll race, all your figures will hold no meaning as every car will normally pull differently from 20, 40, & 60 rolls than to how they would from a dig. A STi/Evo will run away from a TL off the line. Put them at 40 or 60 rolls, & the TL now has the advantage. QTR mile times are just bullshit figures unless you actually run a QTR mile.

To the OP, based on your mods, you probably won't get him. It will take more than exhaust (muffler back or catback?) to hold your own. I'm running J-pipe, test pipe, & catback with a 5AT, & I'll run dead even with a 350Z Nismo (which just had the Nismo exhaust that came stock & some aftermarket intakes) up to a 100 from a 40 roll. After that, his top end just keeps pulling.

Let's see if we can keep it on topic: Mods for the OP; Best bang for the buck; trying to avoid embarassment.

Bolt ons: PCDs and J Pipe.

Turbo, even better.

qtr mile times dont mean anything, you're right, but he stated the TRAP SPEED. trap speed is an indication of how much raw acceleration your car will have given a certain amount of distance. the actual time is a combination of takeoff, acceleration, and shifts. in a street race, the only thing that matters is raw acceleration and shift times if its a very close race. remember, if car 1 does the qtr in 14.0 @ 100 and car 2 does the qtr in 14.0 @ 110, then car 2 is obviously faster with more power, because car 2 would have taken off slower than car 1 and used raw acceleration to catch up. bench racing may be silly, but physics and the equations of motion arent!

Raced my buddys 06 G35 with just an hks exaust the other day at 45 roll and it was literally dead even until about around 75 he slowly pulled by about a half a car..and this is how it is about everytime we race my 1st and 2nd gear r about dead even and by the time 3rd gear comes around i lose time..same goes with my buddys rsx i race all the time he got intake, headers, and exaust and i usually pull by about a car but when 3rd gear hits he catches on and we end up about even

Thank you for your support.

OP, better luck next time. Perhaps try a less controversial thread title/topic.
